Seen on Friday afternoon over Shawbury (I was on my way down the A49, having been up to Carlisle for a few days to check on elderly mother and mother in law)  A Chinook, apparently going round in ever decreasing circles.  I wanted to get home so I didn't stop to see if it finally disappeared up its own tail ramp!

A DC-3 just buzzed my house!

Very low though, right at the minimum. It flew right up my road, veered left and disappeared over the hill. Obviously heading for North Weald. They must be taxiing in to the Squadron Cafe right now!

Was it carrying the now obligatory six bags of aggregate ? If so I'd head for the hills  ;)
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Loads of contrails, which given the weather is not surprising, but also lots of low'ish level airliners, which is. Obviously the wind direction has changed at either Gatwick or Heathrow, or both, and we are seeing them in their take off/landing patterns ? As said it's very unusual to see them in this part of S London.

When I made my 'pilgrimage' back to the old country in 2002, we landed at Gatwick. But we circled London for quite sometime in the holding pattern, I was following it on the moving map you could watch.

Gatwick is my "local" airport and I can get there by train in less than an hour so I always aim to leave from there if I can. I suppose what I saw could of been in a holding pattern, hadn't thought of that  :banghead:

Gatwick has two holding patterns for their usual westbound landings, one north east of the airport and one south east, so it sounds like the northeast one was in use that day.

[I know this because of my time doing Flight Simulator in some depth.  ;D]
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

The South East pattern goes over my parents house.
Mum claims they dump fuel into her pond causing deformed frogs.

Flippin' big pond if they can hit it from that height  ;)

I assume they just aim for the East end of the village and hope for the best.

Yup. In all honesty I've often wondered what happens to the fuel they dump over land

The volatile components evaporate before hitting the ground but heavier chemicals might make it to ground level. Depends on the altitude, wind direction, humidity and temperature. Not something I would want to live under if I could help it.

Fuel dumping should, whenever possible , be done above 4000' altitude, and if possible, over the sea.

But now for something completely different. I have seen this guy a few times but this is the first time he has done a few orbits over the house, giving me time to get the camera.

It is a Maule M7 reg. N280SA and is  based somewhere about 40miles south of here near Dumfries.
