Yesterday I saw the RAF's Voyager take off and today I thought I was watching it return. I wrongly identified it though. What I saw was a Luftwaffe A310 ( and it taxied by quite close to see properly). I don't think it was a MRTT variant because it didn't have any refueling pods under the wings so I'm wondering what it is called.

;D ;D ;D

So doing a google on it, it seems to have been the only none MRTT in the German Airforce fleet (10+23). Now that's two Luftwaffe aircraft I've seen in the last two weeks. Now I wonder what they're doing here  ---- Cold Lake is all I can think of.

Possibly helping the RAF out ?

Don't know about that Chris. Last year another Luftwaffe A310 had to make an emergency landing here at YYC, someone told me it had to glide in the last twenty miles. I think they must be going further south because the one I saw Thursday wasn't there Friday morning so maybe just topping up the tanks. The A400M on the other hand had a refueling boom over the forward fuselage.

AFAIK that's a standard fit on A400-Ms, for sure on the RAF ones.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Out late last night (or what counts as late nowadays  ;D) and saw a bit of the Perseid Meteor shower. They had to be pointed out to me but I did see them

Rheged

This morning, on the way into the cathedral at Hereford, 17( yes seventeen) jet trails .    As Paul Simon sang  "They've all gone to look for America....."   or perhaps they found it and decided to come back.  On the way home, at a crossroads, an inordinately bright orange cone about 6 feet high surmounted by a  high-vis yellow wind sock  (ugh!! clashing colours, call the fashion police)  Yes folks, it's the King's Cup air race again!  The sky was filled with small aircraft  out of Shobdon airfield, doing 4 laps of a 25 mile circuit at about 500 feet above ground and making far too much noise for a Sunday afternoon.

Rules observed in the negative by many of the military aircraft in these parts, even more so around where Rheged lives!

Working at the end of 17R at YYC today and I've just watched an Antonov An 124 land. It just had 'Antonov' on the fin as to who the operator was.

Just now: Zero, Mosquito, Spitfire and Mustang.     ;D ;D

... and again two minutes ago, third flyover, this time solo. She seems to be out on an extended
flight around the city.

And a little bit later another Voyager. I heard on the truck airside radio, the pilot (in a very British accent) call the tower and said he was waiting for a couple of helicopters which had more passengers for him but they hadn't arrived yet and did the tower know if they were close to the airport. Tower responded that there wasn't anything showing on the radar within 50 miles.  I assume they did arrive because the Voyager left about an hour afterwards.

Was it a 'real' Zero Jon, or one of those very well done Harvard/Texan T6 conversions
