Did you offer to go over there and repaint it in red, blue or yellow for them?  ;) ;D

you are so right : I would imagine quite well the top in yellow, and the floats in blue ;
but well, you have to accomodate other people's tastes too, somtimes

I have just spent a most enjoyable ten minutes, hanging out of the modelling room window, watching the Swiss AF F-18 practicing his routine for this weekend's Scottish International airshow, here at Ayr sea front.

The display area is two miles south of our house, Prestwick airport is one and a half miles North.

Another sighting of what is rapidly becoming our resident pair of Ospreys.  Gossip in this area suggests that they are on detachment to the SAS at Stirling Lines just west of Hereford.  Perhaps in the fullness of time a Fleet Air Arm or RAF Osprey won't be a Whiff.

That pic raises an interesting question. Why do Swiss Air Force F-18s have arrestor hooks? AFAIK they don't even have a Navy, let alone any carriers!

EDIT:   T-38C just flew by at the exact moment I hit submit!

EDIT:   Hell, while we're at it, a C-17 flew over 15 minutes ago. Pretty amazing how quiet these modern engines are.

Kit I think ( a very dangerous term I know) its due to some of the Swiss fields being rather short, so they have arrester wires to aid breaking....
I think, im certain I read it  / saw it somewhere,  but I could be a reality or tow over on the above statement. :thumbsup:

take off and nuke the site form orbit, nope, time for the real thing, CAM and gridfire, call special circumstances.

SP I really hope you meant braking not breaking.  :rolleyes:

The Canadian CF-188's have then as well. Some years ago at the airshows that dotted Alberta, the RCAF used to demonstrate the mobile arrester wire set-up they had for recovering the Hornets with a Hornet. Not seen them do it for the last few years though --- but then I haven't been to many shows just recently either ---

Kit, I think the Swiss F/A-18s are stock-standard versions which would normally see service on USN Carriers.  The RAAF F/A-18s all have arrester hooks as well and have had them from day one of their service.

I wasn't aware there were two different arrester hook fit-ups for the F-18's

Doing what I do at YYC, I've had the -124 come right over my vehicle a few times where we wait for the contractors to show up which is at the end of 17R but on groundside.

2 x (Australian) Army MRH-90's in loose formation right over the house at about 1700hrs local. Didn't have time to grab the camera to get a shot of them, I'm afraid.

Probably playing with the Pongos at Woodside Barracks.
