Waitin' on the possibility of a SAR Group Build, I jumped right in with a Hawkeye conversion.  Wings have been clipped a bit and a single tailfin designed.  I'll have some customized observation windows in place and am planning to affix a carefully shaped piece aft of the cockpit in order to streamline the upper fuselage (never did like the humped look on airplanes).  "Able-Eye" will end up sort of being my own, sleeker version of the Greyhound COD variant, I suppose.

I will probably paint it as a CAF bird in bold yellow with red & white bands and some serious black bits for ultra-high conspicuity markings.

Oh, did I mention it will have a T-Tail????    :P

Neat...although I kind of like the humped look on those birds.  Yours will be much sleeker, I am sure.

Maverick

i did up an old fujimi e-2c as a maritime support platform & hung ashms etc off it.  kept the tail tho cause it looked cool

reckon urs will be seriously nice JHM

Neato, Baz man. It kinda looks like a mini-Dash-8 ! Would look great in CCG red as well. But not as good as yeller w/ lightning stripes.....and leafy roundels.

Awesome, Mr Howling Mouse! I see you're going for the double-play...a T-tail and leafy roundels! This one's gonna be fun to watch!

How did I miss this one?

That's one of the 1/144 Revell kits, right?  Sweet little kit.

Nice conversion to a single tail.  Definitely not something I'd think of doing to a Hawkeye.

Looking forward to seeing this one progress.

I just posted it so you didn't really miss it, my friend.  It is actually the old Fujimi kit in 1:72 which was recently reboxed by Heller.  Pretty good fit so far but molded in a hard/brittle, toy-like plastic with plenty of thick flash in some tough places.  Took me 20 minutes to clean up just one of the propellers.  The plastic used in the Heller kit is actually more pliable and easier to work with but I'm saving that one for a more complex kitbash: bigger, wider, longer, faster!

Oh, ok!  Cool!  I've got one of the Heller ones in the stash that I've been waffling back and forth on making into an amphibian.  Good to know it's easier to work with!

Thanks, Baz!  This is one interesting build ya got going on.

Ian the Kiwi Herder

When you got it built/painted/decalled in about three weeks, put it in a box and send it over to me. I'll put it in the display cabinet at work..... see if anybody notices  ;)

That's prime Alberta cardboard, Rafa. Very expensive stuff.......we could only dream of having such cardboard on this side of the country.

Ian:
Trade ya for a certain Rafale, perhaps?

Rafa:
Definitely cardboard, cut from "manilla" envelopes (they don't have those in Eastern Canada, either).  I always use cardboard to test out feasibility of mock-ups.

But I can't will it into 3D shapes the way you can, Jedi.

Hey Barry, y'know what would look cool?  If you got rid of the turboprops and replaced them with underslung jet pods, Viking style :)  Or, overslung jetpods, Antonov style for rough field performance  ;)

I say this, not because I want to see it, but purely to mess with your mind   knowing you will be unable to resist further styrene surgery.
