Now that's looking very spiffy, if i may say so.

clear glass all round or going for a tint somewhere?

is she going to be sleek and gazelle like, or are you going to counteract her sleeker new look with lumps and bumps...and a HUGE spotlight, and LLTV and all that good stuff?

i need to buy myself a couple of nice prop jobs i think...i'm off to shop.

Hmmmm....tint?  What do the real SAR folks prefer?  If you're searching over the sea at night (would you?) would a tint make things more difficult?  I was considering a sort of clear yellow painted on the windows...

I know: "Photogray" ™ like in photochromic, variable-tint eyeglasses (that go darker in bright sunlight but clear in dark conditions).

Hmmmm...lumps and bumps?  I wasn't thinking of that but now that you mention it...and a big podded spotlight under a wing?  Examples?

You deserve to get some prop-jobs, that's for sure!!!

do i ever...

how about a little multipurpose flir lltv ball under the nose?  kinda like an apache, but perhaps less intent on killing folks?

you'll need radar too i assume...

Quotemmmm....pretty.

But I now see that the starboard pilot's stepside window is bigger than the port version so more filing to come.  But still looks better than the pic above!   :)

Getting this is the mark of mastery :o  :o  :o

72 real life SAR scrambles here and please NO TINT!

The Sea King HAR.3 had removable green sunshades but as I flew it in Northumberland, Scotland and the Falklands I never had any occasion to use them.

Good thing you like the "no-tint" as I've already installed the windows and coated them inside and out with Future/Klear!

Glad the Captain noted this as I *missed* those two pics up there.  A searchlight seems like a definite requirement.

I just love that helo!!!  Any source for more pics of that dark beauty?

Barry, it's coming along nicely, I don't know how you get your ragged holes to turn into perfectly shaped windows and doors, truly amazing.

Retro has some great ideas, I too am diggin that helo.

I like the enlarged fuselage as the standard one has to be the most cramped I've ever been in, even more so than a fully-staffed EP-3E.

Sorry Baz, saw this early on but after that it's somehow missed my attention.  In order to atone, I'll fill you in on the helo it's a Dauphin from the German Bundesgrenzschutz (Federal Border Protection), now the Bundespolizei (Federal Police).  That dark green is now giving way with the name change to blue with a grey stripe.

Enough photos for ya???

Is your plane a pure SAR bird or is it maritime patrol?  If it's a MPA, a MAD boom would be handy.  If it's pure SAR, store pods containing dropable life rafts?  External tanks for longer time on patrol?

I really am looking forward to seeing this done!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Many thanks for the pics.  That is one sleek looking helo.  Interesting how in some nose-on shots, you can see that the lower cockpit windows (what do the rotary folk call those: ankle windows?) are different b/w port and starboard side (the port side window being narrower due to some hinged access panel/door just forward of it); yet the EC-155 cockpit view had identical windows from inside perspective.  But I digress...

My SAR-Able-One will be a typically CAF bird: designed for SAR duties but if they're asked to pick up the Base Commander's laundry, they'll do that, too.

I was originally going to do it quite plain but Retro70's mention of lumps and bumps has whet my appetite to further enhance it.

External fuel tanks sound like a good idea, can a floodlight pod be integrated in forward nose of an underslung fuel tank?  What would the life raft storepod look like?  Would a half fueltank glued onto the fuselage do?  One or two such pods?

Baz, I gotta ask (because I'm too lazy to read through the previous three pages), what colours are you going to finish this out in?  (please no hangover headache inducing yellow, please no hangover headache inducing yellow...)

CCG Red and white would look really nice on this bird!  Or low vis greys

As for liferaft pods, I've got some on my USCG HF-4J, but I used TARPS pods from Italeri F-14A's (minus the connection pylon; btw, the HF-4J was totally hand painted, finally answering your question, Baz! (forgot it was asked until I just reread the thread)).  For my USCG MH-72B, I used an old bomb and cut off the tailfins to make an air-deployable raft.

For the SAR-1, maybe some huskier droptanks (like from an F-15, though shortened) hung from underwing pylons?  Also, since you've got the forward "cargo doors," maybe have a diorama of it on the ground, being loaded with air-deployable raft pallets or something?  You know, open the door, shove it out, wish it well, hope it doesn't foul the props.

You could maybe integrate a light into the front end of a droptank in the same way an L-39 has lights in the front end of the wingtip tanks.  Well, maybe not the same way, as those lights and tanks are small, but on something the size of an F-4's or F-15's tank, a searchlight assembly could work.
