That sounds terribly exciting, Lancer.

If someone has an Italeri 1/72 Osprey they can provide me with, I have a rather spiffing idea using the decals from the Airfix SAR Sea King ;)  (and its not yellow ;) ;) )

Sales of Airfix kits plummeted in the 1980s, and GCSEs had to be made easier as a result - James May

Currently have the HS1179L underway, this was a designed as a harrier replacement based upon the HS1154 but with design revisons to avoid some of the pitfalls discovered in the 1154 design and Harrier testing.

Also lined up is the West German VJ101D VTOL strike fighter and the USN Grumman 698 VTOL Fighter.

May come up with one or two others depending on time and source kits available.

Norwegian white/dayglo orange?      have to do a Merlin in that scheme one day...

Some ideas that might be butchered about...err I mean kitbashed from existing kits...

Harrier with a direct-lift engine forward - early 1970s patent - seems to correspond with the HS.1175 project

Late 1960s from Lockheed - maybe achievable  with some C-130 and -141 bits...

Early 1960s from GE

Early 1960s from Junkers(!) a tie-down arrangement was used at take-off, while landing would have been made nose-high, with a dorsal-mounted chute being used

Late 1950s Lockheed - maybe use a 1/72 A-6 fuselage mated to 1/48 F-104 wings?

Don't forget to check out my site for ideas.

I'd love to see someone tackle some of the US VSTOL projects here:

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Just realised I've got a started Rotodyne and a half-done Piasecki AirJeep from Glencoe, both of which I could finish for this build. Any objections to my doing this?

Went past Ian Allen bookshop in Waterloo at lunchtime and saw they had Tony Buttlers book on Flying Saucer Projects in the window. Looks to be a very interesting read and priced £25, it could inspire some of us into the more outlandish plans.

Yup...I'm in with this one.

Following on from my Loki, I envisage a TSR2, with 1/48 Harrier intakes and nozzles and an X tail, as per Loki.
I'll probably add upward slanted wing tips to the TSR2's downward turned ones, plus other more 'obvious' modernisations, such as a bubble canopy, ifr and assorted ecm doo-dads. Lob in overwing aams, underwing fuel tanks and large, feck-off anti-ship missiles and gun pack.

Just begs for Swedish Splinter camo...

Sweet, I've got a Canadian Sea Harrier FRS.1 on the bench at the moment, should have it finished this month! ^_^

QuoteCount me in, I'll definitely be attending.

Hmmmm....

I'm thinking along the lines of doing a Harrier GR 5 in RAF colours. What's that...

Not very whif you say....

Ah, I'm thinking the real GR 5  ;) - AKA the "Big-Wing" Harrier that BAe pitched to the RAF after the AV-16 programme collapsed.  :)

Me thinks Sea Harrier fuselage and modified AV-8B wing should do nicely!

Failing that I'll be boring and just do a paint job on a standard Harrier!  :(

O.K.
Hate to tell u this.... Ive already done that one. mines in 4 squadron markings, so try not to do the same squadron lol

Hmmm, you could quite easily convert the old FROG kit, although it goes for a big wad & that's if you can get old of it, but the Maquette re-realease still floats around.
