In and amongst all of the current global malarkey which I'm sure all are finding concerning (but I won't go into detail, you know the stuff I mean) there have been stunning night skies down here on the Sussex Riviera.

Attended a Stargazing event on Friday night run the local astronomical society.  Very good introductory/explanatory talk that put what was visible into context.  Great views of Jupiter (one could readily make out the stripy cloud formation, but not the eye) and its moons through telescopes; Mars was easy to identify.  Even through my weedy 10 x 30 binoculars I could see three of Jupiter's moons and just about make out the Orion Nebula.

Pretty much the same view from my back garden the following two nights.  After a bit of a struggle looking for through my rather noddy Panasonic Lumix's viewfinder it I eventually found Jupiter plus all four of its moons.  Sadly couldn't get a photo, hadn't set up remote control of the camera through my phone, so way too much motion.

The days have been beautiful, too.  Very clear skies and great visibility.  With the naked eye it has been easy to make out Beachy Head in the east all the way round to the Isle of Wight (Bembridge/Ventnor area) to the west.  The views from Cissbury Ring would, I'm sure, have been stonking.

That said, today has been quite hazy.  No seagulls, though - good news as ice cream and chips not interrupted by them!

Tell you come from the affluent part of the country, the beach huts are freshly painted  ;)
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I think I needed that view of normality and serenity right now, actually. Thanks!

The best laid plans of mice and men.......

It's been an odd few months, modelling-wise.  Finally I've made headway with builds, even completed a couple.  There was something of a Hurricane trend going on, in fact, and I'd hoped to have finished three Hurri-based models done by the end of February.  But no, only now are a couple complete and another one stopped.

The much delayed M.21 is now done, as is a real-world Hurricane IIb.  The latter is a conversion of the old tin-wing Hurricane that utilised the nose of a Heller IIc plus adaptation of the kit's original 'a' wing.  Yes I could have bought an Arma Hurricane IIb but I had these in the stash and, well, waste not want not.

You cannot view this attachment.

With the remnants I put together an 'in service' Hawker F.37/35, but ya know it fought me all the way.  When it was almost complete I decided I'd had enough - not happy with the result, bits breaking off it (my lack-handedness, not the model's fault), etc.  And then I had a plan.  Possibly a cunning plan.

Another tin-wing Airfix Hurri in the stash (I do like that kit, nice and simple, accurate outline) that was destined to be chopped up into another, very hypothetical Hawker design, would instead become the basis of an F.37/35.  Hopefully in the near future, like I said I do like that Airfix kit.

As for the 'failed F.35/37', it will be repurposed.  Paint stripped off, canopy reused, bits rearranged, etc, - what I'd had planned for the stash Hurricane, in fact.  Waste not want not!  Not sure when that will be done - a few languishing part-builds to finish off yet, plus a real-world OOB Airfix Zero.

Onwards and upwards, although more likely sideways.

Nothing quite like a 'cunning plan' Dave.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Right then, changes to the change of the aforementioned cunning plan.

Looked again at the venerable Airfix tin-wing Hurricane with a view to photocopying IIc plans to aid scribing the gun bay panels, etc.  Took a look at my Revell IIc that was set up to donate cannon and wondered whether a wing swap would be easy.  For some reason I recalled reading something somewhere about the Revell IIc having some major fuselage issues so mated up fuselage halves.  And guess what?  The Revell Hurri IIc's fuselage is bang on for the Airfix Hurricane I's!

So the Revell kit will become the basis of the F.37/35 with the radiator, propellor and decals from the Airfix Hurricane I.  But worry not (you weren't anyway  ;) ), the Airfix Hurri will now get the treatment planned for the Revell kit.

And now I think about it, I think I saw (possibly on Britmodeller) a comment that the Revell kit's fuselage is much closer in length to a Hurricane I than a II.  That does definitely seem to be the case.

You know there are people who measure their kits when they get them out of the box to check the accuracy.  And others who offer them up to plans to check the shape.  What bizarre behaviour.   How do they know the dimensions and the drawings they have are themselves accurate?

I guess it take all types...

I've heard that too, very strange behaviour.

And they keep on muttering words like 'scale', and 'accuracy' too.  :-\

Plans.  Tricky buggers.  Not one of the Hurricane plans I have actually 100% match each other.

But then did every RW Hurricane actually match all the other ones too?  ;D
