Pity its a bit narrow or else you could possibly do the Royal Navy Antartic Patrol ship  HMS Endurance
Way to go, Geoff ! Now I'll need two !

:P

Are there any 350th scale kits out there that would make suitable ice breakers ?

So what are you going to do with the North Cormorant, Revells 1/200 scale North Sea Oil Rig ?
Mines gonna be out on the Grand Banks, maybe close to St.Pierre. It'll have large heli-deck and a pair of downward facing ski-jumps, and maybe a slingSHAR or two.

Also need to find 350th scale boats to do as supply boats.

Isn't there a 1/350 kit of the Lenin-class icebreaker? Russian (duh), nuclear-powered, biggest icebreakers in the world...

cthulhu77

here we are under light...neat little bugger !!!!

NARSES2

How big is that thing ? If it's as small as I think it is then it's amazing

Chris
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

cthulhu77

yep, it is the smallest whif I have ever done...fun time, though !!!

The barn is coming together...lots of little bits of styrene:

Barn is done...adding on some decals...then onto the railings and much needed weathering !

Well, thanks to you, I went out and bought this kit, too!  It arrived yesterday.  <_<

Some questions, if you don't mind:

a. You mentioned the need to test-fit everything very carefully.  Was that because the quality of fit was questionable or simply because the way many of those superstructure wall bits have to fit together in exactly the pattern the instructions show?

b. What did you use for the woodgrain deck finish?

Your helo is outstanding!  You should make a 1:72 or larger equivalent of that just for fun!
Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

Nice assymetry there!

Did B&V helped out design the thing?

:P

Awesome!!!  I can hardly wait to see yours come together...

A:  both.  I had to do a lot of cleanup and cutting on my bits to get everything to fit...still required a lot of filler !  Hopefully, yours is of better cast !

B: Len Roberto, over on Modeling Madness, wrote a really great review of the USS Constitution, and detailed how to do wood decks...I use his method, and then add on some other colours with pastels and pencils, then seal the whole thing with a clear coat prior to adding the other stuff.

Thanks for the helo !  I seem to have upset some people on other sites with it...ah well, what can you do !!!

LOL...no...I have been into ship design for a long, long time...worked out the weight parameters and guesstimated the crane location...seemed to balance out CG on paper, at least !
So many railings to go !!!

Mouse, putting on the railings and ladders is a real pain in the donkey...seems the best way is to use a pair of calipers (found some at Staples for two bucks), measure to the nearest whole upright, and adhere with white glue.  I tried using CA glue, but attempting to finagle the pieces in quickly is really tough.  Also, make sure you paint as you go...I had to go back and do a lot of touch up !!

cthulhu77

Note:  I changed the way I am attaching the railings, and started using CA glue because the white glue was taking forever to dry.  Just make sure your hands are steady !   Many hours of railings yet to go, and then...the rigging !!
