Thought I needed to post this somewhere.. this is a zombie build I have had as a shelfer for some number of years.
International Model Asia , had some great resin multi-media kits of AFV's but also lots of ships and boats. Sadly IMA appears to have gone as a vendor, which is a great shame.
This is the 1/72 version of the Coastal Motor boat. This can be built as either WW1 or WW2 type fitout. The kit was Resin hull and various bits and bobs and laser cut acetate for other parts, that are flat, like the Bridge.
Lots of stuff is replaced as it is average or require too much work to get right, or needs to be fabricated, such as Masts and using drawing provided on the loose term "instructions".
I am pretty sure there are more accurate kits of this out there.. but I have this.

The basic kit, with the obvious replacements bits and stuff that just needed a bit more detail, plus Brass mast all soldered up. Most of this was done, I dunno, maybe, 5 years ago

Drag it off the shelf and start playing with a base. I wanted to try and demonstrate how a stern launched torpedo system would work. Plus I am in the Ships/Subs need to be in their element to make it pop for me.

At the almost done stage, crew added from various 1/7? figures, with a bit of tweaking. Rigging underway using invisible thread and stretchy rigging filament.
Base is worked up Artists Mod-Podge or similar, over a crepe paper base layer.

if anything is whiffy, it is the colour scheme as these appeared to vary from boat to boat.
I am sure there are other here and elsewhere that know more than I do on these boats, this is working for me and just getting somewhere near finished, finally,  is feeling alright.

That does look REALLY good.

As a concept, that idea always seemed to me to be a bit dodgy. I mean, you lob the torpedo out of the back, and then have to get the HELL out of there before it accelerates and torpedoes YOU!  ;D

To mis-quote 'Smith and Jones' 'That's a good deal?'

Perfect is the enemy of Finished. I presume. I've never achieved either.

That does look good

Must admit I've always found the stern launched torpedo concept rather odd
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Who's the user Bri?

This model is Royal Navy, based in the Mediterranean. Four of this class were lost in the Crete Actions.
The idea of launching and then out running your own torpedo, does indeed sound.. fraught ?

I think this is the best image I have found of this group of boats and contains just a bit of understatement around skills of the  Royal Navy Crew.

Really nice job, BT! Love the old CMBs!

I remember reading a book about the exploits of the CMBs during WW1 many, many moons ago.

Can't remember if I owned it or if it was a school library book. I certainly don't have it now.

It covered all their operations, including the late-, & post-war Baltic expedition.

I still have a book from the same era (1974-1978) in my library about the daring-do's of the small boats of WW2, "The Battle of the Torpedo Boats".
Has a life outside of What-If & wishes it would stop interfering!

Hah, '....considerable dexterity.....' I LOVE it!

I can imagine the poor helmsman heaving MIGHTILY on the wheel the instant the Commander yelled 'Fire!'   ;D

Thanks Bri.

Rheged - The fighting with the white Russians etc always fascinates me.  I hadn't read about this before.  Having been told the dates 1914 to 1918 as a child, when war memorials in the UK dated 1914 to 1919 were pointed out to me it piqued my interest.

It is a fascinating period  I've a book "The Splintered Empires - The Eastern Front 1917-1921" by Prit Buttar which covers it very well.

So far most of my reading has covered aircraft and ground forces in the Caucasus.  I obviously need to expand this.
