The boat seems pretty small, compared with the torpedo. I guess it might be difficult to build a boat at that size, for launching the torpedo from the prow.

Actually, the issue was running over the torpedoes if they were bow-launched. The CMBs were based on an ocean racing speed boat design & were, for the era, very fast.

The boats were, in fact, faster than the initial speed of the torpedoes after launch. Of course, a couple of seconds later & the torpedo was off & running. But until then, there was a better than even chance of hitting it with the bow of your lightly built wooden boat.

It was only after a more efficient, lighter compressed air launcher was developed, & more powerful engines, capable of moving a bigger boat faster were designed, that this became less of a problem. There's a reason that most early MTBs, etc., still launched their torpedoes offset from dead ahead.

Great build 👍

Dyed in the wool 1/72 aircraft modeller, me, but I've got the Airfix RNLI lifeboats and the ASR launch itching to get built.

Fond memories of helping Dad build an Airfix Vosper MTB when he was off sick with a broken leg in the early 1970s

Hmm, I'd like to see Airfix bring them out in 1/24

I was a member of the Leighton Buzzard model boat club when we used to use the pond at Bletchley Park. One of our members built one at 1/24th scale (if memory serves). It was quick!

I foolishly tried a Soviet G5 in 1/32nd, a similar idea but aluminium, was insanely fast on 7.2v and scarily unstable on anything but a flat calm - my excuse was I only had crappy photos to work from (this was pre-internet)!

At only 26.5' long Miranda IV wasn't actually an "ocean racing" design. The races the boat competed in were in Southampton Water, including a race around the Isle of Wight, and at Bournemouth on a triangular course anchored by Bournemouth and Boscombe piers.

A couple of finished shots, now that rigging and the "water" is all in place. Mediterranean at it's most spectacular Blue.. I have seen it in colours like this
Probably get to our Model Expo, I think.. I am pretty happy with it

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.  Revelling in numptytism.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

An odd question I know, but where did the flag come from, and what material is it made from please?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Just an image I found on the internet. I am fortunate to have an old copy of Adobe Illustrator, so the image was scaled, then made a duplicate and flipped the copy so I could print side by side and fold over. Printed on normal paper. Looking at it again, it is perhaps a tad too big for this craft.
Feel free to use this one if you wish
