C-121 Constellation in RAF Service

I did a bit of work today on a kit I started work on about six months ago and then put down (ain't that the way?)

It's the venerable Heller Connie kit, in this boxing:

Which I picked up at Porthmaddog models on holiday last year. I'd glued the engine cowlings together, made up the cockpit interior and painted the inside of the fuselage halves already, and at the end of this evening I've done this:

Felt like I'd done a lot more before I put it all neatly to take a picture!

The intention is to paint it in the post war RAF bomber scheme with the grey top surfaces and black sides and bottoms, for no real reason other than I like that scheme! I intend to paint up an airfix tempest in the same scheme for the same reason, but I got carried away when I got in from work and tried to prime it with a cold can of spray primer and it's taken on the surface finish of a pumice stone!

Hidden away down that side street too. That's where I got the Mach2 Seamaster kit that I morphed into the RAF Monterey a few years ago, and he did me a GREAT deal on the price of the kit. I don't think he was ever going to sell it otherwise.

Hidden away down that side street too. That's where I got the Mach2 Seamaster kit that I morphed into the RAF Monterey a few years ago, and he did me a GREAT deal on the price of the kit. I don't think he was ever going to sell it otherwise. 

Such a great shop, I was astonished at the range of more niche brands they had, as the model shops we used to have round here were all fairly vanilla with their Airfix-Revell-Italeri selections. I've been out of the game for a while though so I didn't want to get anything too ambitious. (Just a massive kit with molds older than I am!)

I was going to set about glueing the fuselage halves together this morning but I looked over the instructions before I did and saw Heller's helpful reminder to stick 115g of weight in the thing! Not turning up anything suitable from the various drawers and toolboxes of the house, the forces of evil are bringing me some fishing weights via same day delivery. What I really need is a second big kit on the go to work on when this one sets me back....

i would say  something like an airfix vulcan,  but i know the old version needed a bag of shot in the nose as well 
the Revell ISS dosnt need any weight,  but it does need a good bit of acreage

Funny how that works eh ? Looks like she's coming together nicely. Always been a fan of the Connie. Used to see them around the odd airshow back in the 90's. Wonderful aeroplane to watch !

I pick up old wheel balancing weights off of the street. Heavy soft material there for the taking.

Still using a lot a mate of mind got me from the Tyre Changing he worked at, and he's been retired 10 years

I used to find those while surveying along roads. I've got a whole cup full of them. Not much use for them in armor models. I've got to get back to aircraft!

I've got a stash of modern steel wheel weights from my motorcycle mechanic days, but the size to mass ratio put me off using them! There's a flipping great fishing weight stuck in there now, may well mate the fuselage together later tonight....

I collected the lead nail heads when I replaced the garage roof... I now probably have more than I will ever use.
