Saw them in a Nannybook advert.  3d printed napkin waffe kits in various scales.  A bit pricey though

I thought I wanted one in 1/35.
Until I changed the scale to 1/35 and saw the price.......

I think I'll reconsider.

Indeed  :o

And talking of scale, the choice of 1/56 is slightly odd ? Or is it a wargamming scale ?

Wargaming.  Close enough to 28mm for government work

Cheers Scoot. Thought it might be and on checking I note Italeri among others have a fair few kits avaiable in it.

From my quick research (using non-AI sources); 1/56 is the actual scale that wargaming started with but 28mm has partially supplanted it as it's easier to make all your figures the same height, rather than scale them correctly.

Back in the day - early/mid 60's -  "round" figures were 20mm and flats and half rounds (German & French respectively) 30mm. Then we got 15mm which soon became 18mm and 20mm also grew. No manufacturer used the same size. Was the 20mm foot to top of shako or foot to eye  :banghead: It's always been a bit crazy, one of the reasons I packed it in. The manufacturer I used a lot (Essex) went out of business and could I get anyone elses figures to fit in with his ? Could I hell  :banghead:

It's not confined to Wargame figures, either; the '54mm' Historex figures actually scale at 60mm, 1/30 or so... (measuring to the eyes, you see)
and the new Tamiya are 50mm, which is closer to 'proper' 1/35, but they still look titchy to me... even comparing to other '1/35' figures.
Still, a mix of everything is what I usually use; we're not all the same size, after all - or even with the same size 'bits'....  ;D

As a manufacturer you don't want your customers to buy other people's products so you make yours slightly taller meaning they look better than the competition.  The competition then does the same and so on and so forth.

True. The other thing was that some manufacturer's figures had been on a diet, whilst others had definately "eaten all the pies"

Marketing 101...  :banghead:

Thankfully, when it comes to vehicles and aircraft, they HAVE to work to a specific size/scale.

The Historex figures are 1:30th scale, have always been listed as such.

I think one of the reasons for 1/72nd, 1/48th and 1/35th military figures being all over the place as to height, and as a result proportions, is that the regular plastic kit manufacturers didn't grasp why figures were measured to eye level not overall height. All they had to do was look at the
headgear of Napoleonic war soldiers, long the most common subject for "toy soldiers" and they'd probably have grasped the logic.
