PSR is done on the Pinto body and truck fender combo because I said so. Enough already. So, guess what happened? I had sprayed on some primer to help with the PSR and when I sprayed on the white I got a bunch of wrinkles in various spots. Paint gremlins are at it again. Sanded that down and sprayed red after a couple of days and new wrinkles in totally different spots. I had made a box to fit behind the Pinto and gave it a coat of red. It came out fine except for some lint. I sanded that lightly and sprayed it again with the same paint. Wrinkles on the top and one side but not the others. Makes no sense at all. Paint hates me! Is there anyone who would like to paint the things I build?

Here's a couple pics of the paint complications.

This is the worst one. Wrinkles on four sides and this is after sanding.

The Pinto body is not that bad. Still a few small areas one in particular is hard to reach.

The truck has all of it's wheels on! That's progress! This also shows how it will look like when done. There will be other details added soon like diamond plate on top of the box and the open space between the fenders.

Gave everything another shot of red tonight. I shook that can until I thought the ball would pop out! It looks good now, I'll see what I have in the morning.

Things are looking good this morning. Now I can go ahead with assembling the rest of the Pinto.

Mucho progress on the Schnibblemobil! Enough of the paint gremlins are banished that it doesn't matter anymore. Time to move on. All the big parts are together now. Just a few little parts to go.

I found a glue at Hobby Lobby called E6000 that holds the plastic the pill bottles were made from very well. It's very thick so not good for really small parts. It's very rubbery and holds very well so far.

The Pinto taillights got recycled (or upcycled?) onto the custom lightbar and mudflap holderupper. I painted the back of the two large taillights black but I don't think it will work out well. this might get changed yet.

So, I've used parts from a couple of different kits in this shindig. The main truck frame and undercarriage is from a decades old ERTL IH Paystar 5000 truck in the orange and black plastic. The Pinto is the new AMT 78 Ford Pinto in the silly US Postal Service markings. Who thought of that? It's not a very good kit and I'm sure it dates back to 1978! Extra parts like the red frame on the back are from an IH Transtar 4300 truck kit. At least it was in white plastic. Various parts like the red box simulating the engine housing came from my found objects drawer. The diamond plate sheets I bought for the Ian McQue project came in really handy. Ill be searching the decal stash for something interesting. Paint was Rustoleum red with Testors black and white spray cans. I just had to go with the white racing strip on the roof and hood of the Pinto just for fun. Definitely not a contest model and very much a curbside build. I could have fought with it for another month but I still have to build the trailer!

Yeah, he sure would have, and so do I, it's fabulous!

But Phil would have probably camouflaged it, or painted it all yellow!  ;D

I thought about yellow and black but too late now. I've a couple of Gundam kits that will become construction equipment. Caterpillar yellow would work.
