There's a modeller in Japan who hyper-details 1/700th ships and related aircraft, including opening up cockpits, adding clear canopies, propellers and he also adds rigging to biplanes.

On that tiny Harrier he'd probably add a cockpit, canopy, intake blow in doors, detailed nozzles and landing gear along with to scale stores.

And this, gentlemen, is why I build exclusively in 1/48.  I have enough trouble with small parts as it is, making the model much smaller than 1/48 really gives me trouble.  Also the level of detail that is possible with smaller models (given the time and resources I have) is nothing to write home about.

You mean he WOULDN'T make all four nozzles swivel through 95 degrees together?

The tiny SHAR's had all the PSR it's likely to get, surprisingly little actually, just a bit around the intakes/wing joint, and has had its first coat of primer. Plus I've added the landing gear legs and the speed brake too.



I'll have to decide on a colour scheme soon, but it'll probably be some sort of grey, exciting, eh?

South-east Asian air forces have some interesting ones that introduce blue into the mix I believe?

Maybe, but I have plans for the Tiny SHAR that restricts its colour scheme.

I couldn't really say the Tiny SHAR is making good progress. Try as I will I cannot get the finish to be smooth enough around the intakes and the upper fuselage. I've tried PSR session after PSR session, but the shape of the airframe there is so complex. Wet & dry paper won't get into the gaps deep enough and using a round file ends up with grooves where I don't want them.

I'm on the 5th or 6th PSR session now and it'll need at least another two I reckon.

After sorting out what PSR the TinySHAR is going to get, I gave it the essential final coat of grey primer and it was ready for some colour coats, which was a problem in itself. I wanted it to be in a sort of RW scheme for 809 NAS, the SHAR unit that was formed in a tearing hurry to go down to the Falklands aboard the Atlantic Conveyor to assist the two SHAR NASs already there aboard the Hermes and Invincible. 809's SHARs were painted in an new scheme of Barley Grey undersides and Light Aircraft Grey on top, and the only Barley Grey I could find was Humbrol's. My fave Hataka brand does do it, but no-one seemed to have the correct kit of colours in stock, so Humbrol it was.

I did the undersides all over Barley Grey OK, and then put on a layer of LAG down to maybe 1/3 of the fuselage up from the bottom, and it all went on fine.

The only problem is I can't tell the difference between the two colours! 




The Barley Grey is slightly glossier than the LAG, but that's about it as far as I can see. I might as well have given it a coat of LAG all over!
