Well, a rainy day here in the lovely south has allowed me a little time to work on the Guardian.  The window plugs are sanded down, but I dont mind still having the window outline visible as they usually are when a passenger aircraft window is plugged for real.

The SLAR antenna is tacked on to the left fuselage and the 57mm and 20mm Vulcan guns are coming along.  Foil will fill in for the boot over the gun barells where they protrude from the fuselage.  I figure painted dark grey it should give the appropriate look.  The FLIR/LLTV sensor is also inserted below the cockpit, but not glued in yet.

The cabin floor running the length of the model is sttrocious, warped all to hell, so I just cut off the cockpit section since this is hte only part that will be even remotely visible when complete.

The engine's also need a lot of work where the intake/propshaft attaches to the front of the nacelle.  This really is a kit ripe for modifying, a JMN would tear their hair out over it.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

A slightly-fuzzy pic of the aft 20mm Vulcan.  Between the Vulcan and 57mm two 40mm guns will be fitted.  These will come courtesy of the metal tube on a bottle of Testors Model Master liquid cement.

And finally...who would have thought that if you take an F-27 engine nacelle, flip it over and turn it backwards, put the horizontal stabilizers from an F-27 on as wings and the h-stab of an ancient crappy Hasegawa T-38 on the front as a canard you would get the outline of a cool looking racer.

Ok Ok, that last one was totally unfair :P  and too damn cool to boot!

Excellent work man, I'm getting excited.
Getting back into modeling

261-1299, eh ?

Who ya gonna call ?

:P

Looking good ! Can't wait to see more.....love the look of the guns already !

The cool looking racer looks alot like one of those micro-jets things, like in that Bond movie.

Oops...at least the area code isn't visible!

I may just have to find another of these F.27 kits someday to make a pair of "nacelle planes".  One could be a Reno raceplane with a merlin behind the cockpit, the other...hmmm...maybe something really way out with blaster cannons in the wing roots and a hyperdrive in back.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Aw cool (all of it, including the potential canard subject).

Too bad about the warpage but you likely weren't that surprised.  Plus, it makes me feel much more confident shredding a kit that was warped to begin with.

I'm about half way through the world's telephone area codes, still working on the 261-1299 number.

Man, if it turns out that is just some part number for your car or whatever, I'm gonna be plenty pizzed!!   :D
Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

she's showing some serious promise now!!

i know it's a bit early for this, but how about some nose art? those gunship pilots and crews are a pretty racy bunch you know.

don't forget the flare and chaff dispensers!

You know I've been thinking about paint/markings/nose art...

I'm really partial to the current dark grey RAF scheme.  I know some consider it dull, but I think it looks clean and menacing.  I really do prefer it to the earlier grey/green wraparound, so I'm torn between grey or desert pink for the Iraqi campaign.

I really like the large waving Union Jack on the Air UK decal sheet that came with the kit.  I was thinking of using that on the tail and making the aircraft in colors for the Queen's Jubilee flyby.  I also have a great sharksmouth from an F-100D that looks like it would wrap nicely around the nose with very minor trimming.  I may put the sharksmouth on a grey one, but would deffinately use it on a desert version.

Chaff/flare dispensers are in the works for the rear fueslage as is an IR jammer.  I'm also thinking of self defence missiles, possible a twin AIM-9L rail on one wing and ECM pod or or extra chaff/flare pod on the other side.

Oh, well...it's a beautiful day here today so the Guardian will be on hold while I finish my honey-dos before leaving for Airbus training on Sunday...where's the rain when you need it :(
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

My my, very nice, and scary to boot.

Like the racer. :ar:

By the way, there are reverse look-up white pages online...
