I'm a dedicated hairy stick user, so I already use the Hataka Blue Line paints for brushes. IPA acts as a thinner for Hataka Blue Line stuff, and I use it as a 2nd stage brush cleaner, after water for the 1st stage.

So, if you're lucky, it won't effect the rattle-can white & you can clean the Hakata paints off with it.

Great idea, thanks so much!

Quote from: frank2056 on August 12, 2025, 08:47:31 AMYou can try masking, paint white over the tape, paint the lines then pull off the tape when the lines are dry.

That's exactly what I did, but even with the tape sealed with Klear, the paint crept under the edges.

Quote from: Weaver on August 12, 2025, 09:35:42 AMIs there a thickener or medium you can add to the acrylics to make them less prone to running?

If there is I don't know of such stuff. Anyone else know please?

I'd need s sort of negative thinner...................  :-\

Winsdor and Newton make products called things like "acrylic medium", but I have no idea about compatibility or how to use them.

The paint pen sounds like a great solution. I'll have to remember that one.

I was going to suggest the AK Interactive pens... but don't want to sound like a shill.

And I use "Brush Magic" as a third stage cleaner for when a brush needs a real good deep clean. You have to be careful though as it will take the paint of the brush handle if left to long  ;D

Yes, I tried that stuff once, and it not only took the paint off the brush handle, it took the glue out of the ferrule and the hairy bit fell right off! :(

I've still got the bottle of it at home, but I've not used it since.

I put just enough in the jar to cover the lower part of the ferrule nowadays and then keep an eye on it. Wouldn't be without it

The Aquila's SRBs now have brass tube pegs to plug into the PSB and the First Stage. It was a bit of a fiddle to get them EXACTLY in the right place to match the already drills holes, but they fit nicely now.

I think I'll sand off the clamp ring paint and re-spray the whole thing white before doing the rings of both SRBs with Sharpies. I've also painted up the crew compartment of the 'glider', such as it is, and I may apply a wash of dark blue or similar over the crew members before sticking them in place.

I bit the bullet on sorting out the markings on the SRBs, and sanded ALL the old ring markings off. The I re-primed and re-sprayed both of them from top to bottom and I'll re-do the markings using the ink pen method.

They're probably 1/120 th scale now, with all that extra paint!  :o

I've got the five little crew dudes painted up and installed in the 'glider' now, so that's the top part of the Aquila all sorted.

The SRBs are a different story though. I've tried marling the sealing rings with a black Sharpie, but the pen seems to run out of steam after only drawing 1-2 rings and then just stops, despite still being able to write on paper. Very odd.

I'll get some different maker's pens and see how they work.

Funnily enough, another Convair-ish shuttle called Aquila has just crossed my Twitter ("X" ) feed, this one done by an account called "Truthful". Apparently, it's made using his own modded parts for KSP.

Now that's REALLY weird! And it's almost the same shape as mine, but quite a bit larger.
