Quote from: NARSES2 on August 10, 2025, 12:43:44 AMThis is coming along rather nicely sir

Somehow my brain sees it with an open top and an interior full of radio equipment, operators and the odd general or two somewhere on Sailsbury Plain in the mid thirties

Oh they had one of those, the Medium Command Version

Ah, Great Minds, eh ?

No, seriously, thanks for that picture

That needs a General in a deckchair on the roof being served tiffin while watching exercises.

Whilst wearing shorts, gumboots and a knotted hankerchief on his head.

General Gumbee? Or does he not have a tank top, round glasses and a small moustache as well?

He doesn't need a tank top because he's on top of a tank...

I'll get my pith helmet...

Quote from: zenrat on August 11, 2025, 05:20:25 AMI guess its a hobby for people who own property or can at least afford to hire a space to build their layout in.
In my area is a model train club who rent space in an industrial warehouse because of that. I've never been to take a look, largely because railway modelling isn't my thing, but it kind of makes me glad I just build little tanks :)

My club, the Gloucester Model Railway Club (catchy, eh?) rent a hefty building from a local Community Association. Currently is houses 2 x N gauge layouts, one 00 gauge layout, one 0 gauge layout, a big 4 gauge test track and a kitchen.

It's rather large.............................
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I could easily fall into railway modelling (Dad built me a big layout as a kid) but resist mainly because I don't have enough time for the non-rail vehicle modelling as it is.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

Serendipty, but in last weeeks edition of the French Maigret the murder victim was a model railway nut in the early 50's. Noticably at one point he was complaining about the price of stuff coming from Germany  ;D

I used to drool over Fleischmann catalogues.  Most of my rolling stock was handed down from my Dad and my Uncle and so was all 50's and 60's vintage.  It was added to over the years and then passed on back to my Uncle for my cousins.  Don't know what happened to it after that.
It's good when stuff like that can all stay together.  A few years ago we were helping a Brother-in-Law clear out his cellar when I found a box full of the family train set.  Obviously I had to set it all up to make sure it still worked.  I had it up and running on his deck when the other two brothers arrived.  They immediately started grabbing "their" bits which they then took home.  This meant none of them had enough bits to run anything which I think is a shame.

I never really got to "play" with my layout as a kid (I had Triang rather than Hornby stuff for some reason  ) as Dad worked for British Railways and he and his mates would come round and show how that railways should be run

Dreary weekend here.. so shed time

Interior painted

This is just about, perhaps, maybe the final bit of scratch building on this build. Roof is on, last of the rivets put in and hatches in test fit mode prior to paint

The floor is not fixed yet as I need to houdini in the Vickers MG's from the bottom
Add some detail bits and pieces and gun mounts and then the paint shop

Looking very good

For some reason my brain wondered where the doormat was, so that all those squaddies could wipe their feet before entering. Something quintessentialy "1930's English" ?  ;)  ;D

Lets call that done. Pretty happy with the build as far as the concept I was working on.
Some rivets should be re-done, we shall see if it goes anywhere else other than on a forum.

Painted in SMS British G3 green and some average weathering.. not really happy with it. Not un-fixable, just not fixable at this stage.
There is a whole bunch of stuff inside that you cannot see in images, but they trick it out as far as I am concerned

That will be it for while, off on an extended holiday in the next couple of days.

I will be away from the bench, I might be some time..

Nothing wrong with that if you ask me :)
