Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

Well the above solves the Lewis gun thinking.. that is a no. Vickers it is

Quote from: zenrat on July 22, 2025, 03:56:57 AMComing along nicely.  Got room for a Boys somewhere?
Sorry old bean.. no Boyes AT rifle. Perhaps the Mik II after the prototyping trials  ;)

Kick back it will be a quite a few days before I am at the bench again.  :)

Quote from: Jakko on July 22, 2025, 02:01:10 AMThe whole idea behind the Lewis Gun's barrel jacket was to act as a chimney: muzzle blast going forward causes low pressure at the muzzle, which sucks in air at the rear of the tube and draws it along the fins surrounding the barrel, cooling the latter. Of course, if you put one of these inside an enclosed vehicle it would suck air out of the vehicle with every shot, causing underpressure inside which then causes air to be pushed in from outside through any opening in the armour.

Found this pic.  It illustrates the fins inside the jacket.

Thank you for the correction  .I have noted this spelling, and adjusted things accordingly.  However spelled, it could  project a 0.5 bullet through over 12 inches of brickwork.

Incidentally, your new image has occasioned comment at Chateau Rheged.

It  means that you read  the instruction sheet

You could use a Lewis aircraft gun, but that would be an unlikely choice given those were used on aircraft and not by ground forces until sometime around the Home Guard receiving them in the 1940s. Because it turned out the barrel fins and shroud were totally unnecessary to have the Lewis work fine, leading to the thought that all those troops had been carrying a few kilos of unnecessary weight all along ...
... I know all this and more ...

There comes a time when one's avatar should match one's name.  Although I did always identify more with Shaggy and Velma.

Not an issue for officers, of course, so unlikely to weigh* with them at all...

*didn't see that one in time to avoid it; sorry/not sorry...  ;)

But it appears it's only a short time.  Back to Tank Girl for now.

And we are back on deck. Although with a deadline later this month when I shoot off on holidays for an extended period, so best get this done soonish.

So, first the tracks   ??? Not a pleasant experience for individual track links.
Not sure what Old Womby found, in my case the "click" part was not clicking, the join hinge extension was a smidge too wide for the female part of the next link. So each link needed a couple of swipes with a file to make it narrower at the join hinge bit. Razzin' Frazzin' :icon_crap:
But, we got there and once securely glued on not going anywhere. So paint in Situ.

Then onto the rivetting, went quite fast, certainly a lot faster than the track debacle. Next is to trim the tails a bit and double, triple check the roof fits after all this

After looking at various bits and pieces around on the Medium, added shielding around the braking drums, plus a "step here" over the transmission shaft housing for the infanteers onboard to at least look like I care a bit about their well being and safetly during disembarking.

next interior paint in a pre-war Silverish colour and then add on the roof/floor/hatches... it goes on
Thanks again for the support.

Old Wombat

Pretty much the same on the tracks.

Generally more work than I'd like required with a supposed "click-to-fit" system.

Ended up laying them out on lengths of tape & making (I think) 2 sections per track length, which I seem to recall ending up as 3 segments* whilst trying to re-fit them after painting.

Really liking how this is coming along, BT!

[*: But at least I got the top done in one piece with appropriate sag.]
