And the wheels themselves are still in the same locations as with the RW version, so no worries about having to KR#2 an explanation for them being in a slightly different spot...

#121
The return rollers are slightly further forwards.  This reduces the likelihood of a track being thrown when tracks are warped to their limit whilst the vehicle is heavily loaded.
The payoff is a slight reduction in the maximum warp factor and heavier steering.  Lower ratio steering gear was fitted as a result which led to quicker steering (or, if you prefer a higher warp speed  ;) ).

Apropos of nothing, I just found this pic on the Wikipaedia page for the Universal Carrier and it appeals to me for some reason.

Australians driving Bren Carriers towards Bardia, Libya, January 1941.

Note they have no blackout hoods on the lights.

I can just imagine a bugle sounding the charge as the soundtrack to that

Or, rather perversely, "Ride of the Valkyries".  ;)

I'm sure the recoil of that cannon set would act as a REALLY fast reverse gear!

I suspect it would buckle the support frame - something else to include in the backstory.
I made it hefty but there is no cross bracing.
