First time i've seen it.  I'm interested to see how it compares to the half its age Academy kit.

I've never owned either kit, so have no idea.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I've got both but I've built neither. I'll go and have a look in a bit.

From Hobbycraft:

1 x tin of Plasticote Metallic Copper spray paint
2 x Hasegawa 1/72nd scale F-104G/S Starfighters

Got these mainly for the decals: each come with TWO full decal sheets, giving 2 x Luftwaffe, 2 x Marinefliger (which is what I want), and 3 x Italian Air Force schemes. On the downside, there are no weapons, just drop tanks, so you're obviously supposed to make use of Hasegawa's weapon sets. Not bad for £16 each, plus I got the pair for £27 because Hobbycraft are celebrating their 30th anniversary with a £5 off if you spend £30+ offer.

If you want some of these, be quick: the last time I looked they were sold out in the shop and there were only 4 left on the website, of which I've now got 2.

I think the Academy one is either heavily based on or a copy of the Hasegawa one but with recessed rather than raised lines.

First time i'd seen it.  It's not a kit which pops up too often.  I'm interested to see how it compares to the half its age Academy kit.

Got both in front of me now. IMHO the Academy kit is MILES better. Lots more detail with recessed panel lines, proper ejection seats instead of seat-backs on a shelf, rocket pods with optional nose and tail covers instead of moulded in, bombs and SUU-14 dispensers as options, separate windscreen and canopy with the option to pose the latter open, much bigger decal sheet with a choice of USAF or Taiwanese markings instead of two near-identical USAF ones.

The Hasegawa has very fine raised panel lines: so fine they're barely there, and could easily vanish under a thick paint coat or be swiped away with one flick of a sanding stick.

Can't speak for accuracy. I've never built the Academy one and I built the Hasegawa one so long ago that I remember literally nothing about it, so I can't comment on fit.

Thanks H & Chas.

The Academy kit does have a fine selection of underwing stores.  Even in the Black Eagles display team boxing.

A 1/72 Italeri YF-12A "The Thing" came through the door just before I went on holiday. I can see lots of painful hours of rescribing..... one day.... a few years from now.

1 x Hobby Boss 1/48 Bell UH-1C Huey Helicopter (HB 85803) - to join my 1/48 Virtual RAN FAA Museum flight (flew in one back in the early-80's - yes, we still had a few Cs operational)

yes, this is the backup plan until he delivers on a 1/72 version. Although I'd probably take the A-12 over the YF-12

Yes, the IAR-80s very pretty isn't it? Sort of a Fw 190 designed by Dewoitine... ;D  ;)

Sercan's work is absolutely nuts, in a good way. I have two boxings of that kit in the loft, number 141 and 1141. You might inspire me to actually build one as an in-service aircraft.

Received this evening

From Aerocraft Models

1 x 1/72 Martin-Baker M.B.3b

From Sword

1 x 1/72 FJ-2Fury SW72138. I have no idea what to do with it yet, but I needed something for the next item to catch a lift with.

1 x 1/72 Etch set for Sword Lightning T.Mk.4/T.Mk.5 kit. The set is ideal for me to use with the two-seat P.1121, so I asked, and he found a spare he had.

Two tiny clear plastic windscreens from Revell Gmbh to replace the missing items from my 1/32 Surtees and Porsche kits. VERY fast service from them, I'm most impressed.

Until I read the paperwork I had no idea that Revell Gmbh were now part of the Carrera Group!
