First up is the Gladiator seaplane - with the vought kingfisher production delayed, and all available production examples being sent to the us pacific fleet, the fleet air arm had to rely on this old girl to spot trouble.

They fought well in the defence of malta against heavy opposition, and the type was the eyes of the fleet until late 1941, when they were replaced by more modern types.

Next - Belfast's answer to Beriev:

The Shorts 330 and 360 seaplanes - used by the RAF for maritime patrol and SAR duties, Australia, Holland, India and Canada in similar roles (remember, they are owned by Bombardier now, eh?) and much used as a water bomber by several agencies worldwide, this series of amphibians has proven to be a reliable and cost effective answer to the demands of it's users.

The Shorts designs really need to have the engines raised above the wings to make certain the props are out of the bow spray.  Consider that the seaplane Hercules used more of a P-3 engine installation than a standard C-130 one.

They're floatplanes more than seaplanes, but how about floatplane versions of the Ar-234, the MC.202/205 (given Macchi's seaplane/floatplane background, those'd be naturals for them), and, just for Radish, the Gannet?

oooooOOOOO, the Macchi and Gannet would be ideal...

Is Classic Airframes or anyone coming out with a 1:48 Gannet anytime soon?

I wouldn't have the heart to do the conversion to my Dynavector vac-form!

i have a drawing of an amphibian bronco that i did a while ago - i think that a "seahog" would be super...are we talking floatplane or with a hull for it?

i know what i'll be doodling at all day tomorrow.... :)

Thanks Retro, I do think she's quite sweet (definately a "she") - the floats are from the Airfix Auster by the way with Contrail strut material for the pylons.

Now a floatplane A-10 ? The engines are out of the spray effect at least, but wouldn't all that titanium make her more like a Russkie Alpha class sub ?

I'd say to make it a floatplane and allow ease of weapons loading.  I know that there were studies of putting floats on Broncos, but I don't think any hardware was committed to them.  It'd be something different to do, though.

Speaking of different floatplanes, way back circa 1981, I read an interview with the folks at Edo where they mentioned that they once got a serious inquiry from a rick Saudi regarding doing a floatplane version of the yak-40.
