ive just had a quick look at the Gecko SA80 small arms pack
colour me supprised,  what i thought was the main box  simaler to the normal flimsy card boxs that most 1:35 figures come in, was just a cover ther is a corrigated card inner box of the lid and tounge sealing type, a small well ilustrated instruction manual and etch brass carrying straps !
im normaly not keen on etch, but this means i dont have to think regarding using paper like i have in the past
the things you learn, give your mind the wings to fly, and the chains to hold yourself steady
take off and nuke the site form orbit, nope, time for the real thing, CAM and gridfire, call special circumstances.
wow, its like freefalling into the Geofront
Not a member of the Hufflepuff conspiracy!

Always nice to be pleasantly surprised by a purchase

Well a bit of Oh my giddy Aunt  :o

I had written of ever getting one of these with the death of Accurate Armour, but as we now can see, if you wait long enough........  ;D

Ok its Gecko, so surely to have a bazillion teensy tiny parts, but  ;D  ;D  ;D

zenrat

Teensy tiny parts would be appropriate for a teensy tiny tank.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

The tracks on a Matilda always look wrong to me, but what do I know about tanks?  :-\
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I am in the same frame of thought when i looked at them Kit ..they look alot like Panzer 3ish to me but i shall have a gander and i'll be right back ,,hang five  ;D
Right i have returned with information after my vey short investigation ..Kit mate ..it would appear ya know more about tanks than ya thought  ;D
Ive compared the Gecko tracks to the Matilda 1 they have at Bovington and they are different ...you'll see that in between the track links where the drive sprocket teeth go there slots beside them ,,on Bovington's machine they are solid with what looks like a circle in em .
https://flic.kr/p/a7vWRF
Now this could be that they made more than one type of track for this little tank or theres been a cock up  ;D
Either way ,,its so good to see this little beast in plastic and its probably not going to be a stupid price as even here ,,,Gecko kits aren't that bad price wise .
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

I have a different take; The Gecko tracks look the same as the Bovington tracks;

Mate here's a better pic of those tracks ,,,fifth pic down https://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=7150.125
You'll see thats theres 5 holes in the track link ,,where as the one at Bovington has three ...im not sure if this was where Kit was going cause we're off in a whole new direction now  ;D

Well, actually, it's 4 holes & a depression; 2 holes for the drive sprockets, 2 round-ish holes in slightly sunken sections just inboard of the sprocket holes & a (lightening) depression into the track guide. ;)

The track on the Gecko looks very loose. Not that I'm ever going to buy another Gecko kit...

That's the only substantial error that I've seen but, as they're probably indy links, not difficult to fix.

It's just that the Matilda's tracks look 'loose' and are just hanging out there in the breeze. I guess I'm used to them being covered up as the first tank I ever took notice of was a Centurion, and its tracks are almost invisible!

I spent a good few minutes looking at Matilda 1 tanks and yep ,,there is to much track stag on this kit ,,,as Guy mentioned those are probably indi links so removing one of the links should solve that
If they ain't then there's way's around that problem  ;)

The tracks are loose on the model.  All the pictures show them far tighter.  I think it depends on the crew more than anything.  If they are loose they are perhaps more easily replaced in the field than the only remaining show example. :banghead:
