Thanks, Kit.Now I know whattolook for.
I have a suspicion that the caustic soda is the helpful ingredient in this case, maybe helped by the chloroxilenol.
But I would not like to use a caustic soda solution as di  :osinfectant on my body...

Nor me!  :o

And I recall the stuff was always around when I was young and my Mum using it for EVERYthing! It may already be too late for me...........

I'll be wearing rubber gloves the next time I have to strip any paint off a model.

Why not caustic soda?

You can use just about any strong acid or alkali as a disinfectant, as long as it's diluted enough not to burn.

Hydrogen peroxide is a great disinfectant, which has the benefit of dissolving dead tissue, too. Just have to remember not to use it on open, bleeding wounds, as it can fizz up your blood & do nasty things if it gets into your blood stream.

This is all getting a tad medical for me.............

Going back to the Mustang, the re-prime and first colour coat went on a treat, and it looks like the thumbprint has finally gone.

It looks like the main ingredient in Dettol is Chloroxylenol 4.8% w/v and it also contains Pine oil, Isopropyl Alcohol,  Castor Oil, Caustic Soda Solution (:o), Caramel and water.

Ah good old Isopropyl Alcohol, gets everywhere. It's the Caramel that has my brain thinking ?

I do remember Modelstrip from many years ago which I used to remove some paint from plastic figures as well as a couple of kits. It worked well, but was very messy.

Hmmmm, well.................

While the re-spayed rear end of the Mustang looks OK in isolation, when it's compared to the rest of the car it's TOO good!  :banghead:

I've enhanced the contrast on this pic to show what I mean, but you can clearly see the difference between the new paint behind the door shut line and that in front of it.

I'll just have to re-spray the whole thing and then re-do all the interior stuff too. Now I've lost a whole week, damn it. :(

Can't you just mask the interior stuff when you paint the exterior?

I think the caramel is burnt sugar colouring.  I concur with your remark about Modelstrip; it works well, makes a considerable mess AND gets you into heavy duty   bother with the domestic authorities.

Not now, there's been some overspray got in there, so I'll give Fred's brush painting a go second time around, it's bound to be faster than all that masking business.

NOW we're cooking with gas!  ;D

The Mustang looks a lot better with a new, all over couple of coats of black, and she just needs the interior paint re-done, but this time with a brush and minimal masking.

Mucho internal brush painting, and the addition of some scale carpet as a head lining (it's the same colour as the carpet on the RW car) and the interior of the body shell's done. After a false start using Halfords Clear Lacquer, which looked as if I'd painted the car with 400 grit wet and dry  :banghead: I re-glossed it with the Kristal Klear Acrylic that I use to varnish my decals.

Now it looks like it's made from black glass and it's the very devil to photograph, but here it is anyway.

That's black for you.  A bar steward to paint and a bar steward to photograph.

Very true, it's the first black car kit I've ever done.

I'm almost glad I didn't get really going on my JPS Racing Team build, that would have been 4-500% more black than the Mustang!  :o

But the bits are still there on the project shelf looming over me..............

IIRC John Player Special Lights were in a white pack with silver logos.  You could paint it up like that...
