Finally got my hands on a 1/72 RB-47 Tornado. It's an old Mach2 kit.

Think you mean RB-45.  How does the kit look?  Typical MACH 2?  thick plastic?

I have one too, the various clear parts are DISASTER areas.  :banghead:

Thank goodness for Falcon and their excellent vacform canopy sets.
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

The Tamiya/Italeri AV-8B bought on ebay from Jadlam arrived yesterday. It came wrapped in pieces of what used to be a bigger box, the model's box was squashed but the model is ok because the box is bigger has lots of room to spare so i'm not complaining but the packaging of the items is a weak point for this seller, lots of neutral and negative feedback for the same reason... guess i should've read the feedback before buying! :banghead:
Although it was the lowest price i could find for this kit, i'd say avoid if you can.

The Emhar kits are all original to Emhar except four which are ex-Frog (Anatra Ansenal, Mig-3, Lagg-3,Yak-3). The FJ-4B was Emhar's first model. From the Big Book---- but J.C. Carbonel wrote an article in the Aug '95 Scale Models International about the company which is where the Big Book got it's reference from.

The FJ-4 was definitely scaled down from the Matchbox 48th kit.  The parts breakdown and sprues are identical to the 48th kit.

No they're not. I've got both kits in front of me now: they're completely different.

An eagerly awaited box arrived today from another nice man on Evil-Bay.

All 1/72 Hasegawa and all from the period when they had great box art and let the graphic designer get creative with the aircraft name;

Lockheed P39J/L/F Lightning
Messerschmitt Me 109G
North American P51D Mustang
McDonnell Douglas F4E Phantom II
McDonnell Douglas A4F Skyhawk
McDonnell Douglas TA4J Skyhawk

The Lightning box art is the best of them but they are all so much better than what they'd put on them today (and not a limited edition in sight).

Zenrat: check out all the extra bits in that TA-4J: ....

Single seat cockpit tub
Single seat ejector seat (poor, but useable)
A-4E electronics hump (single seater)
2 x extra intakes with short splitters
6 x Mk.82 bombs
Centreline pylon with MER*
2 x wing pylons with MERs
2 x Shrikes
2 x outer wing pylons

* I typo'd that as "Centrelime pylon with MRE" on the first pass, which would certainly make for a different model... ;D

Those Hasegawa boxes take me back. The F4E boxing is probably the oldest member of my plastic stash, in terms of length of service

Bags are still sealed and the instructions show nothing of that stuff (definitely no details of any MREs or Centrelimes ;)).  Thanks for the tip.  I may rip into it tomorrow for a grokk.
I did note from my initial study of the A4F instructions that it can be built without the hump which is a good thing.  The Phantom appears to have a sh*t load of weapons included.  Another thing that changed with Hasegawa kits...

Yup. I think that's why I kept it in the stash actually, to remind me that Hasegawa could do it when they wanted to. That and I like looking at that target tow dart thing and thinking "what the heck ?"

The instructions have a sprue diagram with the spare bits shaded out and marked as 'unused'.

I 'll see if the engines fit the Avro Shackleton.
