Ah the 109. A stalwart of everyone's stash hoard. Truth is I thought I had a couple but on investigation I found I had twelve all in 1/72nd scale an Avis A, Heller G and K, 3 Airfix G's (old moulds), 3 Airfix E's, an ICM E, a sword D and a Frog F. That started me looking and from evilbay and other sources I have got a Heller B/C, a Pegasus H and several other Russian F's and T's.

Yes I'm on a bit of a 109 kick at the moment. So I thought why not do a 109 in every guise / every operator. Shouldn't take me too long - nice simple kit, possibly a couple a week, how many can there possibly be to make  err.... well over a hundred !

For example the E- Emil there are 18 variants and so far I have researched 19 operators (including captured). The G - Gustav is even worse !

To date I have purloined 36 additions (and made 4 ), but I need more and suddenly evilbay prices seem to have increased (£11.99 for a Revell 109E new box but the mould is 1960's). I tried to get an MPM G-12 from the US recently £9.83 for the kit but he wanted £22.72 postage ! As you can see with a long way to go money is going to be an issue here.

So Gentleman and Ladies (and anything inbetween or slightly curious) I throw myself open to your generosity. Is anyone willing to part with any unmade 109 kits (any marque any manufacture good or bad) or any after market resin, brass frets or vacuform for reasonable prices ? If you want to trade then let me know what you are into and I'll see what I have got in the stash.

I'd rather you guys got my hard earned ill gotten gains cash, I mean, you may buy something decent with it, flowers for SWMBO for example. Talking of which, better keep this quiet if she finds out how much I'm spending ... 'it's lampshade time' .

Ah but this is WhIff world, you do not need to do every RW variant, or operator.
Make up your own variants, and operators.
That should keep you down a very reasonable 1,000 or so.

This sounds like the ME-109 version of The Wooksta's Spitfire build plan. Best make a spreadsheet about what your going to build, with what and who will operate it along with what parts you require just to help keep track.

When I discovered BMW's in Wimbledon in the 60's and the wonders of after market transfer sheets I built shelf loads of the then new tool Airfix G6, so applaud your efforts sir.

As for 109's ?

I've a Italeri F looking for a home plus a couple of others that could probably do with a new home.

If interested PM me and I'll have a look and see what else I have that is looking to move out and we can discuss details ?

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Don't worry I haven't forgotten my true beliefs. As well as all the multiple sub-types and bizarre operators I do intend to keep my (in)sanity with a few whiffs. A 109 in WWI scheme, a biplane version (actually there was a RW attempt at this) multiple matings with other exotics (109/262 cross-over, P-38 with a 109 fuselage, 109ZZ [3 fuselages]).

Only problem is I need more cheap fodder  :banghead:

Probably more fun putting the plan together making the kits !

For "mass-builds" ;D Amazon gives you sometimes the best opportunity to buy cheap - over £20.00 shipping is free.
New Airfix molds are £5.99 (Emil) - check here.
New tool "Gustav" comes for £6.50-7.50 - here or here.
BTW I like the new Airfix 109s very much - both 1:72 and 1:48.

Thanks for the links.... I have one of the new E's - does look good. I've also been looking the second hand market. I know I'll need to duplicate some of the kits but want to get as much variety as I can.

Someone suggested the Hobby Boss quick fit kits to speed up the process. Anyone had experience of these ?

I have built the Dewotine 520. A very easy build, somewhat simple in parts, but accurate and nice to work with. The cockpit may need extra detailing though, in fact to be honest, going by the Dewotine, not just extra detailing but any at all.

I'm sure I've got a 109 or two in The Loft, and as it's anything BUT my fave aeroplane I'd rather they went to an appreciative home. I'll dig them out and give you a list of them on here.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Again my thanks Cap'n. I have dealt with him in the past (job lots of Modelcraft kits) sadly his postage costs (from the US rather than Canada)  were on the high side.

May be that was just the size of my order though. A couple of 109's squashed flat shouldn't cost too much.

Also have a couple knocking around, Airfix or Revell, can't remember which, and I know for definite I've a couple of 'Testors easybuilder luftwaffe bf 109'.
(Bought a bucket load of them for my nephews, years ago. No undercarriage, no cockpit, loads of rivets, but fitted together remarkably well!)
Kingkit have loads of them, from £2.99.(Revell G-10 pre owned, £3.99 brand new)

zenrat

Strangely I have no 109s.
I do have a Hobby Boss easy build Zlin something or other (which is almost completely moulded in clear) which looks to have good engraved & raised detail and from the limited fiddling i've done looks like it'll be a good easy fit when I build it.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.
