Very nicely done

I watch Ice Pilots as often as I can and what keeps coming to mind is watching the antics of the crew trying to stuff very large cargo through the side doors of DC-3's, DC-4's, C-46's and just lately, a pair of Electras.  This would be an ideal solution for them to ease up the loading.

That's a great piece of work and so credible it's bound to mess with heads, which is always a bonus...

As an aside, here's where one Carvair ended up:

I.have a small suggestion and a question. I think if you were to take a "Sharpie" and draw in the panel lines for the nose door it would make a big difference. I didn't notice the clam shells at first.  That was my.suggestion ,now my.question .  What does the other donar aircraft look like ? It is not something I've ever heard of. You showed the others kit  ...   Outstanding job and the finished is superb, too !!!

Thank you all for the comments on the build, I indeed hope she looks like a head scratcher. Perhaps the Carvair along with the Trasavia Airtruk and a a few others is one of the few airplanes to break the old addage "if it looks right, it flys right..."   Not pretty, but they have a certain charm.

Father Ennis, perhaps a sharpie would help define the opening nose.  On the real Carvair it was a single piece nose cone hinged on the left side of the aircraft, on what looks like two entirely insufficient hinges. Guess they worked fine. The Roden model leaves a very pronounced seam on the nose making it look like a two piece clamshell- I should have used more putty.

Not sure what you mean by "what does the other donar aircraft look like"?  On the first page of this build thread I show both kits that were used to make this what-if model. 2 kits to make one. The Roden 1/144 kit is of the Aviation Traders Carvair, which was indeed a real airplane made by modifying DC-4/C-54s.  21 such conversions were made into the real world Carvair, where the name came from "car-via-air" as it was designed to carry 5 cars and their passengers primarily across the English Channel.  The Carvair is the gray model in the early build photographs. I used the only the forward 1/3 of the fuselage, with the distinctive raised cockpit of the Carvair, from this Roden kit. The Lockheed Orion provided the rest of the kit.  This is the white model.   I used the wings, engines, tail and rear 2/3 of the fuselage from the Electra.  As for the left over bits of the Carvair and the nose/cockpit of the Electra I have done nothing to them- except make a healthy donation to my spares bin.  Did that answer your question?  Thanks for the comments!

Pity there isn't a 1/72 kit. The Airfix Bristol Freightliner has a square fuselage ,where as the C-135 and a 747might work, but I am saving them for another whiff.

I see,or rather I didn't see. Things on the right side of pictures some post don't show.on my.screen.  Sorry, I didn't see it.  You are correct, the photo makes it look like a clam shell opening pair of doors. Since this is a wiff ,why not go with the flow,here...   A truely fine model you have done. Very inspiring ...

One of the other guys on here told us of a way to solve that issue of the piccie being larger than the viewable screen, as I had the same problem a while back.

Hit Ctrl and the - key to expand the view and Ctrl and the + key to shrink it. Then use Ctrl and the 0 (That's zero...) key to bring it back to normal. A very handy tip in such circumstances I find.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Wow ! What an ugly little beauty ! Love the look of it tho, and how easily it came together for you. I've been wanting one of those Electra kits for awhile, but at Hobby shops the seem to ask 30+ dollars for a $10 kit.

I had liked the way it looked in grey....would be a nice 60s era RAF bird as well.

Yes it's a very nicely done job.

Back a while ago (year ago maybe), I got hold of a 1/72 Contrail vacuform kit of it. I'll get it done sometime ---
