If You Were Allowed To Smash A Mould

Just supposing you could smash a mould to rid the world of one kit, which one would it be and why?

You are limited to one mould each.

To start things off, I would start with the Airfix 1/72 Spitfire IX kit. This is well past it's sell by date, and must be nearly 50 years old. Time to replace it.

Now over to you.

The airfix puma. Just built one. Its horrible. And the hobbycraft F-18 must go as well.

Can I second the nomination of the Spitfire IX by Airfix? That's truly the kit that time forgot-I'm sure it must have been Airfix'  second ever aircraft model.

As for a personal nomination I'm going for the Frog/Maquette Whitley-the thing's been a bloody nightmare! Warped to hell, covered with flash, transparencies thicker than students and just as clear and, last but not least, some bizarre miniature mountain range of plastic bumps all over one fuselage half. Not a model I'd want to show anyone!

I'll second all but the Spit IX.  First kit I'd ever built.  Could I suggest simply exile on a very remote Pacific island rather than execution.  Instead the hangman could have the Airfic Me 262. :D  :D

i'd dellinitly chose Cooperativa's Lavochkin LA-15, crappiest kit i ever build
no detail, bad fit, terrible canopy, all in all terrible kit, having my teeth pulled is more exciting then making this kit  <_<

all those Series 1 Airfix kits released in the 1950's that shouldv been melted down prior to the turn of the century, Skyhawk, Mig15, Spitfire IX, Me109G, Mustang, Zero, Sherman, Tiger, Panther, etc., etc., etc. ... just how often can they re release them to an unsuspecting 'junior' market, melt them down now... NO THEY ARE NOT AIRFIX'S ' COMPANY HERITAGE' KITS THEY'RE JUST PLAIN CRAP! (and yip im including the likes of the SR.53 and P.1127 amongst them too...such kmoulds being in existence only stops potentially better models becoming avaliable!)

The mould for CDs and DVDs....no computer games means more model building, thus more income available for improved toolings, additional toolings.

'Tis a thought.

Hobbycraft Arrow - to force them making a decent kit of this marvellous machine!!!!!-  ^_^
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

I'd smash the mould they used to make my boss.......

Oh, kits, you say ? How about that piece of crap Fujimi F-8 Crusader ? It's kinda Crusader-ey.

QuoteActually, the SR53 is pretty much spot on outlinewise if the plans in Barrie Hygate's "British X-Planes" are accurate.  It's just the detail bits that let it down and bearing in mind the age of the moulds, that's not surprising.  I'd rather have it, despite it's age, than not at all.

As for the kits being out stop another manufacturer doing an up to date kit - that's just bollards.  There's a whole slew of Airfix kits that have been superseded in recent years by offerings from Pavla and MPM/Special Hobby.  It's just that manufacturers don's see these types as being worth doing.

But if I can smash tooling, I'll start with Hasegawa's overpriced Lancasters, followed by their T33 and Spitfire mk 1, not to mention their Lightning.  And definitely their Mosquito, garbage that it is.  Having said that, once you let me loose in their factory with a wrecking ball and laser cutters, I won't want to stop.
Now if Airfix where to re-release some of these 'oldie but goody' kits with an extra detail sprue, or even a spot of etch or resin, they might be able to reign in some of their critics.  A slight hike in price maybe, but not too much.

One I just don't see the point of any more is the Heller Transall.  Bad fit, warped to hell & lacks detail and it's worth paying a bit more for Revell's tasty new kit.  There's quite a few more Heller moulds that are well worth throwing in the bin with the older Airfix ones.

Revell 1:144 747. That thing was so warped ,you could use it as a big waterslide at a waterpark! <_<

Another vote for the Airfix spitfire IX. I hated that kit.  No other child should ever accidentally start a modelling hobby on that junk. I don't mind it if bigger kits are garbage, since children don't normally build those anyway.

"Allright! My first glue-and-paint kit and it was really cheap!"

<_<

As much as I love using the crappier hobbycraft kits for spare parts such as the 1/72 MiG-25, F-18, MiG-29, Su-25 etc, I think they should at least come in a box with a transparent window so that potential buyers realize right away that theyre just buying raw plastic that only kinda looks like what its supposed to be.
