Nice sighting Jim,  the only ones I've seen while working at YYC, were some operated by the Luftwaffe. Mostly they went to Apron 9 and a couple of times I was working there so got a real good look at them.

I think they arrive unannounced because they have to wait for the SwissPort ground crew to show up, so they just sit there only feet away from where they park with the engines running. Sometimes as long as 1/2 hour ---

A-400s have a very odd sound, something to do with those umpteen prop blades and the fact that no two props rotate in the same direction as their neighbour.

And at close quarters, like Jim's pic, they're LOUD too!
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

They're almost daily performers around here, as common as Hercs are, so I don't bother to report them. But I'm only 30-40 miles from their UK base I guess.

Iíll get a photo one day, but recently the resident 3/4 (I think) scale F-51D Mustang has been out and about a lot lately. Itís in the colours of a Korean War USAF example and is very sharp, although it flies a bit slower than Iím used to seeing from that shape! The DH Venom also passed over our house the other day too.
With warm regards from Whanganui, New Zealand
