Nice sighting Jim,  the only ones I've seen while working at YYC, were some operated by the Luftwaffe. Mostly they went to Apron 9 and a couple of times I was working there so got a real good look at them.

I think they arrive unannounced because they have to wait for the SwissPort ground crew to show up, so they just sit there only feet away from where they park with the engines running. Sometimes as long as 1/2 hour ---

A-400s have a very odd sound, something to do with those umpteen prop blades and the fact that no two props rotate in the same direction as their neighbour.

And at close quarters, like Jim's pic, they're LOUD too!

Sitting on the apron with the engines on idle, they rattle too ---

They're almost daily performers around here, as common as Hercs are, so I don't bother to report them. But I'm only 30-40 miles from their UK base I guess.

I'll get a photo one day, but recently the resident 3/4 (I think) scale F-51D Mustang has been out and about a lot lately. It's in the colours of a Korean War USAF example and is very sharp, although it flies a bit slower than I'm used to seeing from that shape! The DH Venom also passed over our house the other day too.

A few moments ago, we got buzzed by a CF-18, very low and then it zoomed upwards.

Three or four miles south of us, one of the farmer neighbours has a son who flies CF-18's in the RCAF. Whenever he comes near Calgary he always buzzes his parents property and most times, our property is on his flight path   ;D  Usually though I'm too late to actually see it, it's just a roar overhead and by the time I get outside, he's over the other side of the ridge to our south. Today he piled on the afterburner as he was climbing so I was able to hear it for quite a while afterwards.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

On the way back to Herefordshire from checking on my almost 94 year old mother in Carlisle; three pairs of black helicopters with yellow upperworks.  Actually, this is Madame R's sighting, as I was avoiding an Eastern European lorry driver who was wandering across all four lanes of the motorway near Preston at the time.

I suspect they'll have been from Shawbury, it being the training centre for all UK military chopper pilots, and all their stuff is painted like that. These days they're all various Airbus Helicopter models, the H315 Juno being the smaller one and the H415 Jupiter being the larger one.

Don't ask me how I know this.....................  ;)
