One year when I was working a pair of Peregrine's nested successfully on the roof of the office block next door, and this was in the middle of Croydon. It could get quite distracting watching them circling looking for prey.

I misread that as a pair of penguins...

Could be, Croydon's a funny sort of place after all.  ;D

Nothing truer said

747-800!!!! It was miles and miles off in the distance, but it's so huge I could easily tell it was either a 747 or the Dreamlifter variant. I rushed inside to look it up, and sure enough, Lufthansa 747-8 going from Frankfurt to Mexico City!

Only the second one I've ever seen. Last year I saw an older Chinese one flying North.

Heard, but not seen this afternoon: the local DH Venom out and about getting ready for its next airshow appearance over Easter. I popped by the airport after work and saw the owner fuelling her up and, sure enough, half an hour or so later she whistled on by. Lovely.

Green with envy mode on.

NZ's a world centre for classic aircraft restorations.

While heading eastwards on the A14 with my sunroof open yesterday, as you do in such wonderful weather, I noticed a single engined low wing aircraft coming toward me at some speed. As it came o'head it was obviously a Griffon engined Spitfire, (I could HEAR the thing through the open roof!) and looking up at it I saw it was a PRXIX in PRU Blue with D-Day black and white stripes, which made it PM631, one of the BoBMF Spitfires.

PM631 has been grounded for some years for a total re-build and only started flying again a few weeks ago so I was very luck to catch sight of her.  ;D

Heading home from Hereford Cathedral at 4 ish this afternoon, a Pitts Special (probably the one from Shobdon airfield) being hurled around the sky in a most reprehensible, almost airborne-hooligan, fashion...on mature reflection, I suppose that is how such aeronautical devices are meant to be flown!

Indeed, is it possible to fly a Pitts any other way?  ;D ;)

I suppose they do fly right side up once and a while........

Clearly, people manage to fly Pitts aircraft hundreds of kilometers to an airshow. I believe it takes more care than driving a Cessna, though. People with the smaller models, with less power, sometimes leave out all sorts of non-essential things to save weight: in-flight adjustable trims, starter motors, constant speed props, elaborate radio equipment, ...

Camping at Byron Bay we were next door to an airfield servicing gliders, helicopters and parachutists.  A Cessna 208 was constantly taking off and landing throughout the day but was always behind trees when close enough to photograph.
Same with the sightseeing chopper and the occasional powered glider.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Driving south Saturday morning, coming back from Auckland on State Highway 1 (though much further south, around Bulls or Foxton) there were a number of some sort of Raptor(s) along maybe a 5km stretch.
Some airborne, some on the ground or fenceposts, some feeding.

Lovely to see, or as much as I could whilst: 1, driving and 2, 10 hours through a 12-hour drive...

I knew Australian's had a slightly more "liberal" attitude to life then some of us older European's, but that's a tad more "liberal" then I thought ?  ;)

No photos sadly, but as this weekend was the Classic Fighters Omaka airshow down south the following aircraft passed over our house on the way to our local field to get petrol on Thursday and the last couple of days:

x2 DC-3
x4 Yak-52
x7 Harvard/T-6

I've been sick for a couple of days and woke up late today which meant I missed the ANZAC Day flyover by Brendon Deere's TBM and Spitfire IX, but my Dad filled me in on how awesome it was.

There's a field in my area that has powered small aircaft, gliders, paragliders, parachutists, and model aircraft (including large model jets). Helicopters aren't using it frequently. It is a large area but the airfield manager needs to do a bit of co-ordination to make it work.

Captain Canada

USAF C-17 way up in the sky. Said to a guy it was a big heavy. He said it's a 747, distinct 4 into 2 ( I taught him well lol ) I said no, the shoulders are too broad, and you can see the sun glinting off the large winglets. I ADSB'd it to show him
