Sticky Fingers

A Polish C295 on final approach at Leeuwarden Air Base, today.

Nice pic sticky ---

today a green RAF C-130 turned up and parked on the apron opposite to where I was today, to far away to see what serial number it had and once again, zoomed in pics taken on the cell are just poo-poo (that's not what I wrote first   ;D )

Was it a J ? Probably, I think they retired all the old Green ones.

They have now, yes, they just wore them all out. There was one K parked up at Marshall's of Cambridge when I was there last but that was a couple of years ago now.

Cool. I just love the look of lost and forlorn aeroplanes. It sounds kind of strange, even to me, that one would enjoy seeing them grounded, but something just appeals to me. Maybe it's all those youthfull years of staring at Shep Payne booklets in the old monogram kits ? Or from a modelers standpoint the weathering and differing panels, markings etc ? Probably both.

Boneyard at YYC, not so many now, mostly CRJ200's but there is a Fokker 28 and a BAe 146 there

One of 18 Sqdn's Chinooks went slap over the top of our house this afternoon. I could hear it LONG before I could see it and after plotting its heading on a map it was on a direct flight back to Odiham from the Brecons.

Been that long since I've seen a Chinook I've forgotten what they sound like. IIRC last I saw one was 1989.

I love the sound of a Chinook. It was always a thrill to see one come to Borden when we were kids. That sound gave us plenty of time to head to higher ground, or the airport to watch them alight !

Two tornadoes, wingtip to wingtip, low almost over the top of the house.  Very loud and seemed to be making an approach to Humberside airport.  Seemed unusualy close and it's rare to see military aircraft landing at Humberside (if they were), maybe one was in trouble?
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Out mowing the grass when a Blackhawk flew over low west to east. National Guard or Reserve most likely.

Lunch at a certain fast food establishment at 64th St and Cicero Ave in Chicago. Nice vantage point for the 737s on final for Midway Airport.

Midway has two 5000'+ runways tucked into 1 square mile of land. Its a tight fit. Aircraft barely clear the wall around the airport. A few years ago one overran the the runway and ended up out in an intersection.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Midway sounds like a good place to go watch a few comings and goings ! The wifey ( and just about everybody else I know ) have gone to Chicago via Amtrack. One of these days !
