I was knee deep in near freezing water wrestling an 8" hose.....

A statement which leads to two questions...
1)  Why?

The rig is drawing water from a brook. During certain pressure pumping operations, they run an extra filter pod inline. So you have the foot valve, hose, pod, hose, pump. The powers that be asked if the pod could be isolated, and we were closest at the time. the brook was running fast so fighting the current, trying to keep your footing and having numb hands made it interesting ! And to top it off, they were installing a new culvert upstream, and they dumped a load of gravel on it which made the water too murky to see the bottom further hampering out progress !

But we got 'er done

You know that helicopter that's been hanging around here all week ? I heard it again this morning....but it sounded a wee bit diferent, and here's why !

Rainbow Lorikeets.
A flock of them were squabbling in the tree next to work this morning and then when I got home and did a spot of gardening 3 came and watched me.

They look cute but then you spot the staring red eyes...

Unbelievably loud, though. When they go to roost at dusk (in their thousands) the noise is ear-splitting.

Oh yes.  They were there in the tree next to the Post Office again this morning and the whole flock took off screeching as I walked under them.

Just saw two Hawk 127s fly over from Pearce RAAF base.   I'm at home on leave at the moment, so unusually get to see and hear the aircraft I don't normally do, during the week.   There was a helicopter also hanging around on Wednesday.  Saw it in the distance, looked like a Jetranger.   Not sure what it was doing but it kept circling over an area a few streets away, where there is a major intersection.  Hung around for over 30 minutes.   Also seen a few of the perennial Pilatus PC-9s from Pearce as well, zooming past with their engines going flat out.

Hey look ! Another one ! Quite the helicopter highway around here. These guys are doing a survey of the Caribou herds.

A C-17 trundled over at around 5000 ft this afternoon, heading East, presumably for Brize Norton, which is about 20-30 miles east of me. Goodness know why it was so low and where it had been on that heading, most unusual.
