Er...

What I said was '.......One of the few, if .......'

Leaving the option open for others to suggest such aircraft. They are VERY rare nonetheless.

While driving over Exmoor yesterday Mts_PR19 and I were buzzed at low level by an RAF King Air 350 nav trainer, presumably from Cranwell.

As we were parked by a socking great lake at the time I presume they were using it as a waypoint as the same aircraft came back and did it again from the opposite direction around 5 mins later! My camera was being repaired at the time, so no piccies.  :banghead:

Same time as the Blackhawk.....five minutes later, this MRH 90 also in it's green and tan camo.

Around 1500Z today we were 'blasted' by two RAF Merlins at VERY low altitude!

They were both headed up-river, ie to the north east, and were so low that I couldn't see  whole airframe of the one nearest me in the gap between my house and the one next door! I didn't recognise the sound before they were upon us as you just don't see too many of them around here and those 5 bladed weird shaped rotors make a very odd sound. And of course I had ZERO time to get the camera out.  :banghead:

Bizarrely it 'mended itself'.....

I took it to the repair shop en route to our short autumn break the other week and then went an bought a 2nd hand Pentax K100D, which is almost identical to the *isDL2 that was being repaired, or not, as the case may be.

Early this week they said it would cost £260 to repair the *isDL2, which was exactly TWICE as much as the K100D cost me, so I said 'Thanks but no thanks' and went to collect it as it may come in handy for spares for the K100D.

When I got it home it worked perfectly.........

As far as the Merlin is concerned, and based on numerous sightings/listenings here in Prestwick, I think they sound rather like DC-3/C-47 Dakotas!

Saw a Cessna with retracts and stripes circling...never seen that one before ( no camera  :banghead: ) and then a 337. I need to make sure my camera is with me more often. Not too worried about getting a pic, moreover I can zoom in on it and find out who's/ what he is !

Seen? It is too dark to see and the sky is cloudy anyway. But a bunch of F-18 Hornets have been lining up for landing, overhead.
Sounds like they've learned to get a bit closer to base before slowing down to noisy speed ...

Captain Canada

it's bad enought that the Yanks are spying on us when we're down in Windsor....but now the Canucks are watching us too ! Looks like lots of bells and whistles on this bird. Looks like a SLAR on each side ? Plus the turret up front and a few bobs here and there....
