Tornado

I was at Windermere Air Festival yesterday.

The Vulcan was awesome, not as noisy and high-energy as the 2009 show, but it looked brand new with ultra-shiny paintwork and from where I saw sat it flew over my head at least three times! Pure heaven!

The BBMF did a fairly brief Lancaster and Spitfire duo, the Hawk made a good show, the Jet Provost just two passes and generally it seemed this year that conservative of fuel, read costs!, was more obvious than previous years. Has anyone else noticed this? The Breitling Team made a full show though, plenty of noise and smoke (rather too heavy on smoke IMHO) although wingwalking doesn't really inspire me I'm afraid.

OK quick Geoggers lesson.... We live in Formby, a wee town about eight miles north of Liverpool and four miles south of Southport.... where there was a 'flypast' today - I refuse to call it an airshow, it's a flypast 'cos the things dont land !.... anyhoos back to the plot:

This afternoon, we were all in the garden enjoying the glorious sunshine and watching the occasional Spitfire, Hawk, Tornado as they 'held' over the town. All very nice until 1615.... THE VULCAN came. Not one side or t'other but straight over our garden/house... not a half-degree to one side, I swear on the lives of  little Hunter-Gtaherer's - who were completely silent for a minute or two after it went over - it went right over our garden/house.... I ran to the front and watched as it banked ever so slightly to east to go off to 'hold' somewhere over 'The Moss' ready for its' display. What a wonderful, wonderful sight.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Just had some sort of biz jet go low over the centre of town.

I think it was one of the straight winged members of the Cessna Citation clan.

It's a lovely day today, so I can see all of the transatlantic traffic at umpti-thousand feet overhead. As its a nice day, the lemmings are out in force all over the Lake District hills. We have had  two visitations of the local air ambulance and  an R A F Sea King  to the pad at the local infirmary.

CH-53 maybe?  Big & very loud, they have the stabiliser on the left & large sponsons.  Could be a US or German example?

EDIT, scratch that, the fin is on the right, not the left.

Got a big surprise visitor at 21.07, Qatar Airways A340 came in to Edinburgh from Bastia on Corsica. Can't find the flight code (SIG26A) listed anywhere though. Anyone know who's code SIG is, apart from Spectrum in Captain Scarlet of course!?

Saw a 'Griffon' in the distance and got all excited......turned out to be civy.

Looked so good I decided to go to the airport. Pilot said he was delivering it from Montreal to DFW. Some company called South Pole ? Said it was brand new....11 hrs. on the clock !

When I uploaded the photos I noticed this !

The boy said it flew over yesterday around lunchtime....by the time he got the camera it was that far away. Still cool !

Was out running and was treated to another gunmetal gray MH-53E overhead.  they came in slow, did a slow turn to port and then headed off over the trees again.  Heard the thing for almost 2 minutes before I ever saw it  ;D
