My younger grand-daughter is very blasé  about aviation in general, as she lives more or less under the approach to Southampton Airport.  She divides all flying machines into   "plane" (most aircraft) " noisiplane "  military jets  and "upicopta"    helicopters.  Last time we visited them, we took them out into the New Forest..  On seeing a glider, she was stumped for a moment then classified it as "birdaplane"   Not bad for a two and a bit  year old.

Great picture! Did you take that?
There was an old Roman nose Herc flying with a civilian company a long time ago. I wonder what became of it.

Saturn used to operate a small fleet of early civvie Herks in the 70s.

They were used to ship the Rolls Royce RB-211 engines from East Midlands Airport to San Diego for the L-1011 Tri-Star production line.

Not so much "seen" or "anywhere near my house," but a really odd one. C-17 on Flightradar24. Nothing remarkable here so far, with McChord AFB and the 62nd AW in the region.

Here's where it gets weird: The bird has NO callsign, and it shows up on the map and reported origin as Tacoma Narrows Airport (TIW, McChord is other end of Tacoma and TCM.) TIW is only a 5000' private/GA runway. What is a C-17 doing on a private/GA field?

If they were doing short-strip training McChord usually uses the taxiwway on-base. If this were a deportation I'd have expected a bus from NW Regional Detention Center in IIRC northwestern downtown Tacoma to McChord's terminal. I just don't see any way the puzzle pieces fit, since a VIP they woulda sent a gov chopper or vehicle to ferry them to the plane rather than send the plane just across town to them. We see a lot of C-17 traffic to Moses Lake, but IIRC there's a Boeing maintenance shop for 'em on the former Larson AFB even if not the main maintenance depot.

It's also the perfect way for spec op's to leave without a single ground crew or guard seeing em leave ,,,hush hush travel is what we called it  ;)
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Very true, but OTOH Occam's Razor would suggest it's rather some VEP (Very Entitled Person) getting a free ride at the Taxpayers' expense - using what's available and Impressive...

Dang it, now I have Alanis Morrissette running around my head.  :banghead:

If this were an out in the sticks strip, sure. But this is a high-viz strip IN a major metropolitan area and a plane that would stand out on the ground there like a sledgehammered thumb.

Not exactly MY house, but over my 'country home' yesterday, a Herk trundling across the sky at around 5000 ft. As the RAF haven't got any of them any more, I presume it was a USAF one headed to Mildenhall or Lakenheath.

You cannot view this attachment.

Not extraordinary, here, but not quite the usual thing either.

edit: and a bit later an Airbus A400M. Only the second one that I've seen.

At our archipelago cottage, several JAS39E Gripens turning and burning. Presumably different delivery tests as there's deliveries ongoing to the RSwAF of this the latest version.
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

Staying near Carlisle whilst keeping an eye on 97 and a bit  mother-in-law, I'd forgotten that just about EVERY  day in the tourist  season you get the Coastguard helicopter overhead,  heading to Carlisle Infirmary from somewhere in the Lake District with a damaged climber/walker  on board.............and if its not that, it's RAF Typhoons heading for the Spadeadam range .

Bit like being on the NE Coast and seeing the in-shore lifeboat going on at least one trip a day  :-\
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
