That was the one that landed in Calgary back on September 26th Dizzy ----

Yesterday, there were two C-130s at Calgary which took off at different times. Don't think they were RCAF though, the grey was too dark and they had a rectangular white flash on the fins. Then a Korean Air Cargo 747 arrived.  Got to see my first Swoop Airlines 737 too, came right past where I was positioned on the taxiway (Foxtrot) where I was with contractors who are building the new WestJet hanger (I was on one of the connectors from the taxiway to the hanger ramp) Swoop is WestJets ultra cheap flight airline adventure ----

On Monday, there was a nice treat to watch, four BAE Hawk CT-155s took off in formation, three in a 'V' formation with the forth as 'tail-end charlie'

Update to yesterday's post ---

Not two C-130's I saw, just one that I saw twice    ;D

Saw it today too,  ---- twice ----  ;D

And it isn't grey, it's that green the RAF C-130's got painted in ----

I'll add to that...  There's a C-130 back doing circles around Henry Post airfield today in the rain.  I keep trying to spy the tail letters and stuff and keep failing. Last time it was a single "L" which proved to be a bunch of nothing when I looked it up. Nothing listed. Not sure what the deal is there.

What's throwing me off on the one I've seen is the white rectangular flash on the fin, it looks like this below, but I've not seen an RCAF Herc' that's green colour. I can't see if there's something in between the two end bits of the flash though, from the distance I'm seeing it there doesn't appear to be any thing, just the two blocks of white or light grey on the ends. My co-worker says he can see red, blue, white but I couldn't see that.

In that picture, on my monitor, through my eyes, that looks green to me.  A very sludgy grey shade, but green.

Really weird but after reading your post I went back and looked at it again, and I can see what you mean

That RCAF Herk just looks grey to me, but then everyone's perceptions, and monitors, are different.

No photo as I was too occupied just watching out the window next to The Bench, but local pilot John Luff's DH Venom came over the house on finals last weekend after making an appearance at the Tiger Moth Club's annual fly-in at Taumarunui. He bases it at RNZAF Ohakea (about 30min drive away) but occasionally pops back here and is always nice to see and hear.

Well my time at YYC (Calgary International) is almost over, tomorrow is my last day. But to cap off the time I've been there (almost four years) a CF-18 taxied right by my position today where I was at the new WestJet hanger that's being built.

Well, that sucks! Does this mean you are out of a job or just moving to a different location?

Out of a job, the company I work for had their contract terminated by YYC. Still, gives me a chance to do a couple of courses that will help me get back into what I was doing before hand.

Been there, done that! Good luck with moving on. At least you seem to have a plan, that's very important.

Redundancy mate or are things different in Canada ?

Whatever you do, best of luck with it

Thanks Chris, the job I was doing wasn't strictly 'security' security, we just had to escort the contractors to their work site whenever they had to work in the restricted area of the airport. We had to make sure they didn't interact with the passengers if the worksite was in the sterile area. Most of the time though I was out on the airfield where the contractors were doing any repairs to the runways, taxiways or surrounding areas or new project were being built.

So because of my position, when the company's contract got terminated, so did our contracts with the company. Hourly paid seasonal workers (although I worked all through the year) don't get redundancy unless you're part of a union which has negotiated it into their contracts.
