So in that article it appears Mr.Trump was travelling in a Sikorsky VH-3D, (Sea King derivative) but over here he appeared to be in a Sikorsky VH-60N (Black Hawk derivative) I presume it's because the later is air transportable?

That is pretty much what it says on Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMX-1
Because the VH-60N folds easily for loading into an Air Force C-5 Galaxy or a C-17 Globemaster it is ideal for overseas assignments. The Marines can prepare a VH-60N for a C-5 load in less than two hours.

That'll teach me to do my research properly - I actually went to that article to check that HMX-1 actually operated both types!  ;D
Oh to be whiffing again :-(

I don't know why, but the RAF were out to play above Leominster at 2 this afternoon.  Half a dozen Typhoons indulging in low-ish, noisy, formation flying including a six man V formation and a couple of three man V's.

There was a cut-down version of the RAF 100 flypast at Fairford today, only 50 aircraft according to 'she who knows', and our part of the country was part of the forming-up area.

Naturally I'm in Leicestershire this weekend.....  :banghead:

Yesterday a BAE CT-155 took off from 35R at YYC, those Hawk's make a lot of noise for something so small.

Today, I saw my first real CC-177. It landed on 17R right in front of me where I was parked by the guard house. They're painted a lighter grey than the RAF ones.  A while later a CF-188B landed on the same runway.

My no. 1 daughter, who works at Blenheim Palace normally (but not this week, they were all given 4 days off) says they had a practice 'fly by' at Blenheim on Tuesday, with an H-60 and two V-22s in formation with a C-5!

The latter peeled off westward, while the choppers landed there, and as there was a USAF C-5 on the ground at Brize Norton today as I passed by I presume that carried in the monster limo.

Way back in '91, Bush senior visited Canberra.  He brought two C-5s.  One was carrying "the beast", the other his backup vehicles.  He did not endear himself to Australia with his use of the rather inappropriate Churchillian "V-victory" salute without understand what it meant downunder.   Barbara Bush stopped my taxi as I was coming in from the airport with her motorcade.  I was not impressed.  Appeared to me to a whole lot of bullshit for someone who wasn't our President.  ;)

That way around it means the same in the UK Brian. Churchill seems to have to have used it both ways and I've never really worked out if with him being from the "ruling class" he actually knew what it meant when reversed ? Mind you as an insult it's fallen out of use to a large extent among the younger generation and been replaced by other hand/finger symbols/signs. Changed in the same way that swear words are either in vogue or not.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Considering that particular hand gesture originally came about from something not related to being rude, more of a 'see what I have' gesture, I don't see what the fuss is about.

I suspect Churchill knew very well the meaning of the symbolic gesture he was using, Chris.  He was too knowledgeable not to have known (or been appraised of it).   I suspect he appropriated it for his own use and everybody knew the real meaning of raising two fingers to Herr Hitler and his regime.  ;)

Probably Brian, but he does seem to have not bothered which way around he used it ? Anyway as said it's virtually disappeared from use in the UK nowadays.

Same downunder.  The young of today have almost universally adopted the American single-fingered salute.   :banghead:

Two F-15's, one came quite low, turning and very noisy.  Yorkshire Air Ambulance Airbus H-145.

I've seen a few A400M's about recently, they make a very odd sound.
