I've seen a few A400M's about recently, they make a very odd sound.

Don't they just? It must all those prop blades going in different directions all at the same time and stirring up the air all around them. The darn things look very much like C-17s but the sound is markedly different.

Whenever my kids give me their single-fingered salute I reply with my two fingered one and state, "I've got twice as any fingers as you!" With a laugh.  They scowl and slink away, knowing they've been bettered.  ;)

Must admit on the rare occasions nowadays that I need it I tend to use the other common hand gesture  ;)

I saw today at YYC another 737-200 equipped with a gravel kit. A new airline to me, but apparently based out of Montreal.

I think it was this one: (Not my photo, found on the internet). It landed on 17R right in front of me.

If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

They have nice livery!!  Love some gravel kit, too.

I live fairly close to the northern arrival and departure paths for CLT, so aircraft flying over are very common, but today I heard something rarely heard around here...an engine that very obviously a fighter type.  Looked out to see an F-15 passing overhead at a good clip around 8,000 feet I'd guess. Rare to see tactical jets around here unless they are here for a football game or race flyover.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

TheChronicOne

That's awesome.

I saw a jet fly over my house today, a T-38 though. Still, pretty neat. I don't see them nearly as often as the Texan II's or whatever they're calling them these days.

There was a droning over here y'day evening, and after a bit of searching around the sky I saw a Dakota trundling up river. It would have made a great against the evening clouds, but my long focus lens takes ages to 'talk' to my newer camera.  :banghead:

Mmm, I remember about five years ago a DC-3 flying over at about 500 feet along the coast here.   There are a couple downunder that do tours around Oz at low altitude and low speed.   It sounded very different to the usual PC-9s and light aircraft we get around here.  Speaking of which, heard quite a few PC-9s this week, flying over and around my house.  Several each day.

Can a Dak do it at anything other than low speed?

Air Atlantique used to use one of their air survey Daks at the Coventry Air Shows and put on an amazing show of aerobatics with an aircraft so old. It was moving at some amazing speed at the bottom of the loops!  :o

And still good for another 100 years of flying!

When leaving Heathrow on Tuesday in an Etihad A380 I was sitting in a window seat switching between looking out the window and watching the view from the tail top camera while we did a magical mystery tour of most of the taxiways (or so it seemed).
However, at one stage a very familiar, graceful, pointed silhouette appeared on the screen - a Concorde.
I got rather excited and pointed it out to Mrs z and got ready to take a photo.
Unfortunately I was sitting the wrong side to do this.
It was still nice to see one again though.  Even if it was just a white shape on a grainy screen.
