On the way back from Hereford earlier today, a black Wallis WA116 autogyro.  I've seen it about quite a lot recently.

Question: Am I to assume that the organisers of the ""Black Helicopters""  have decided I'm not important enough to be shadowed by a proper helicopter and have wished a small black gyroplane onto me instead?

It's to lull you into a false sense of security.

Don't be fooled, they're everywhere!  :o

Hey, if 'Little Nellie' was good enough for James Bond OO7...

As usual, the Monday morning fly past from the Pearce RAAF Pilatus PC-9 class along the coast.  No regularity to it, just some time on Monday morning, they'll scoot along, usually from south to north.

In the last month or so with the clear skies and being out and about I have spotted the Airbus Beluga flying over Bolton as its skirts the Manchester and Liverpool Air Traffic areas to land at Chester to deliver or pick up wings for Airbus's (The A-380's wings go via barge as they are so large).

In that case I suggest you avoid Shuttleworth on the 9th June. That's when the British Rotor Association are trying for the World Record for most flying autogyros!

It's like seeing a Zeppelin fly past, isn't it? They used to go into Filton before it closed, as did the Super Guppies before them, and from a distance you can only see this VAST fuselage!

I was watering the back garden yesterday evening trying to get it looking good for a garden party in the summer - lots of old flowerbeds to dig up and grass to lay.

For a moment I thought the sprinkler was making a funny noise when I looked up and saw a pair of AH-64 Apache going low and slow directly over my house

Went round to water the front and spent ten minutes watching the AA guy drop off a neighbours crashed Ford Ka, looks like she ran into the back of something. The interesting part was the foldaway towing gadget they use now. It all comes out the back of the van on a hydraulic arm, extends the wheels out sideways and down to the ground. They then attach a wire to the car and drag it onto the tow-frame.

I spent most of today trying to get the garden under control.  The score today was five Tornadi, three Hawks, a pair of Herculeses and a small biplane being thrown around the sky in a most unseemly manner. I think it was probably the Pitts Special based at Shobdon.

A noisy microlight went over just after lunch, converting hydrocarbon fuel into noise, it sounded extremely rough and was struggling along at about 150 feet.   A couple of hours later, a neighbour commented that he'd seen "one of those microflyer things" making an unplanned landing in a pasture field about half a mile away . He reported that within a couple of minutes of landing, it had been surrounded by a herd of inquisitive Hereford bullocks.

I've seen photos of what can happen to a Piper Super Cub when left alone in the bush to be tasted by the local creatures, and heard stories about Tiger Moths in NZ being set upon by bovines. I hope someone was on hand to protect the poor microlight and do some shooing!

At least re-covering a microlight wouldn't be as expensive...
