En route to my slot racing tonight I drove right alongside Monmouth School and for some reason there seemed to be lots of people taking pics of their playing fields over the fence. Quite why they wanted to do that I couldn't be sure as they've been there for hundreds of years, but......

As I turned a bend and got a good look into the field I saw there was an Apache Longbow parked on the cricket square!  :o

It seemed to be crewless and was fenced off with ropes and cones and although I had my camera with me I couldn't find a safe place to stop to take pics.  :banghead:

Attack Helicopter Cricket?  ;D
Hmmm, what would be the rules of play?  ;D

Seems the Apache had an inflight problem and a Monmouth Old Boy suggested the school as a landing spot!

It'll make Red Nose Day a bit more special for the kids there!

Ahah, so that's what it was all about, well spotted Nick.

I like two comments from the news item :-

"Although the helicopter appeared to be carrying four Hellfire missiles and two rocket pods, the MoD's Joint Helicopter Command said they were not live."

Yeah, right. Mandy Rice-Davis eh?

"It is thought the gunship will be fixed and on its way by the end of the day," said a school spokesperson.

It was because it had gone by the time I returned at around 2230.

As for Attack Helicopter Cricket, I'll be checking with the MCC later in the day to see where it fits into the current game. The definition of 'body-line bowling' may need to be tightened up.....  ;D

And the crew probably nipped out to the local pub for a pint or two while waiting the maintenance crew.

Attack Helicopter Rugby might be more appropriate

Yesterday afternoon, I saw an Apache helicopter flying over Stanwelll which is close to Heathrow Terminal 5.

Up town earlier saw the Chinooks and Apaches for the Afghanistan parade. Noisy sods
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

When 3d BCT/101 arrived at Speicher, back in late 05, the noise level climbed significantly when they began sending their Chinooks out at all hours

It's already covered by the rule that "Other minor matters shall be left to the discretion of the umpire....."

Had a game been in progress, one might quote the rule beginning "If, in the opinion of the umpire, the  overall game has been adversely affected and/or the batsman taking strike unsighted by intrusion of persons or objects onto the field of play......"(Originally designed to allow for streakers and blowing newspapers, ladies hats, seagulls, etc)

Actually, I'm more concerned about the damage a fast bowler could do to the Apache.....
"If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you....."

Are the locals so restive that live ammunition is required to keep them in the Empire?

I'm living within 8 miles of the border and we're on a constant state of alert here!

En route to the slot racing club I keep the doors firmly locked, the LARGE capacitor connected to the body-shell fully charged and my 'personal protection device' close to hand....
