I know it has its issues, but I really do like the looks of the S-92.

Cheers,

It's the first heli I've witnessed landing on the runway and taxiing into the terminal area. Very nice looking machine that I know nothing about. What are it's main issues Logan?

I think Logan may be referring to the CH-148 variant's project problems...

gearbox problem of losing oil, a civvie one crashed off the east coast a few years ago (in Canada) while on a flight to an oil rig which was directly attributed to it. All aboard were killed except one and the CH-148 has a similar problem.  There have been other cases and for some reason they don't seem to be able to cure it. So far the CH-148 delivery is about 15 years behind schedule and only one has been delivered, and this was just an interim one to appease the Canadian Government with the contracted delivery agreement. None have been delivered since ----

Lovely pic. I've flown on them many times when we worked offshore, including the one that went down. Knew a few of the guys and was honoured to attending the multi-denomination memorial service in St. John's the year after the crash. Sad indeed.

But she is a lovely looking and sounding chopper. Most of the rig crew thought I was insane as I'd get suited up and go watch it alight and leave no matter what shift I was on. Just something about having a bird that large feet away from you, and experience I might not ever get again !

Unpleasant issue. I was wondering where it would have came from to need fuel here...

Avalon?.  It was at the Airshow.  You can just see the tail rotor in on of my pics of the C-17.

Well that's unusual.........................NOT!  ;D ;D

Chinooks near Hereford are almost a fixture, they trundle over here en route to and from Odiham, it's almost a straight line.

Here's one I must have gone within half a mile off at least 100 times and never even knew about it!

I didn't know Alconbury was still open! Who's based there these days?

Probably got the GPS set on 'drive' rather than 'fly'...

Alconbury is still open for base housing only, it's all going to close in the next 3 years like most of the other USAF sites. Not sure what'll happen to the F-5 outside or the real A-10 Thunderbolt somewhere deep inside the base.
At the main gates was an American Police car but further back up the road by the ex-airfield was a UK Police (MoD?) base, they might change soon or become a local force site.

The airfield is now a business park.

Captain Canada

Nice one Nick ! Love the colours and markings.

On my side I saw that pesky pipeline patrol Cessna again. It was the one with the red trim and markings that I want to get a pic of. Too fast for me this time.... :banghead:
