I know I'm going to be a bit blasphemous in saying this but I actually like the Red Kite pictures best, Nick!

Had a number of Lynx HAS8 about today as HMS Argus was in Lyme Bay and they were doing deck landing practice, also had a lynx low level along the beach and then following the river by the Caravan Park going inland still at low level below the tops of the hills which was a bit different.

Then i discovered why as a Sea King HC4 'Junglie' did the same route and the same height at 23:00hrs and came back 40 minutes later !!, and yes i could spot the difference in both sound and seeing the shape on the clear moonlit night

I loved it but i bet some wondered what the F**K, especially as the World Cup semi was just going into extra time  ;D

Especially since, as I recall, the AC doesn't kick on until they get above 10k feet.  The handful of times I was on them in the Sandbox, in the summer, I was bucking for heat casualty.  Especially with full kit on in the aircraft.

During my trip to Santa Pod today (see Cars & Trucks thread) they had 'Sally B' do a flypast.

And it wasn't just a quick whizz down the strip at 250 ft, they put on superb display, maybe ten passes at various angles and attitudes and it was magnificent flyng. As it turned out three B-17s based at the original Poddington airfield where the strip now is, crashed into each other exactly 70 years ago today, and they read out the names of all the crews who were killed over the PA, very moving.

Got to see her back on 2002 at Duxford Kit, IIRC, she had just been fully restored and it was her first flying display outing

I was in beautiful Deadhorse, Alaska for a month and one highlight was seeing some nicely maintained DC-6s operated by Everts Airt running cargo.  They made a really nice sound taking off and coming in!
