Years ago, I created this monster.
I then learned (the hard way) that the corrugated plastic sheet I had used was not the styrene I thought it was----it was polyethylene and it literally fell apart!

I even began working on a how-to article to augment the many "in progress" pics I had supplied here (like Tom says, if we don't archive stuff that way, it eventually gets lost).

Tarmac was built up from multiple sheets of painted sandpaper:

Even made a fictional Squadron sign:

Here is a sample shot of the hangar background in use.  My favorite parts were the spraypainted faux lighting effect from the (non-existent) ceiling and the way just enough sunlight shone through the translucent corrugated plastic to look like distant windows on the upper far wall.

I eventually moved on to a second, scratchbuilt hangar, made specifically for my 1:48 Arado turned 1:100 early Soviet Aeroflot jetliner.  Somewhere on this site, there might still be a zillion in-progress/how-to pics on that build, too.

Oh, and the clear cover I had made for it turned out to be 1/4" too small, btw.  I had measured at the base and failed to accommodate a part of the rear roofline's width.  I take great pride in being that kind of muck-up!!!   :P

That's it, I give up!  Where are me knitting needles?

To say the least - in fact if you just posted that last pic and didn't say it was a model many people would think it was a real photo.

No wonder Mrs. H is always testy...how many of those beauties do you have in your house?  Neat stuff, Sir John !

Barry these are great! I love seeing the stuff you've done before I joined. Weren't you ever just an average modeler?  Way cool!

Thanks, guys.  There's all sorts of stuff I've never posted here.
And I *still* consider myself just another average modeller.  I'm the one oooh-ing and aw-ing most of the time at the models done by other people, wondering how they manage to pull off what they do.

Here are some pics.  I had a ton of in-progress ones too.  Forgot how much work it was in the background to create this from the 1:48 Arado jet it started as.
