I completed this this week whilst struggling with flu...
The decals silvered despite my best efforts. The undercarriage was a nightmare and I broke the radar aerials....I suppose it was good painting practice!
Comments welcome-

I like it! How did you create the mottled camo?

As for the aerials: I got some metal wire from my LHS, this is ideal to make replacement aerials from. As an added bonus, the wire is thinner I've ever seen in plastic, so it's often a more accurate representation.

Thanks for the feedback-I used my new Iwata airbrush for the paintjob.

Such a great paint job !  Did you use the Future/Microsol/set routine on the decals?

kitnut617

Who makes that Van? and what scale is it?  Looks really nice, I wouldn't mind getting one myself, it would go with my Ta.183 and Ta.183A kits I have.

If this is what you put out when you're sick, you might have to get ill more often, I'm afraid.  This is positively stunning!  Could a person convert this from any 1:48 kits out there?

Don't forget Cthulhu's question up there about the decal-applying method.
I must have been trying to apply decals to matte finishes for ten years as a kid until an issue of FSM started applauding the use of Future as a glossy base!
Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

Thanks John-I did apply the decals to a gloss finish (I use Xtracrylix)- I think the decals wee old and rather think with poor adhesive qualities. I would have replaced them but didn't have any spare Luftwaffe decals...
It's Revell 1/72 scale by the way.

cheers

Van,
Very nice work on your Me P1011.
Are the X-4 missiles from the kit? They look longer than I remember them being.

John,
The old Revell kit of the X-5 could make a nice Me P1011, how do I know this? Because I did it about 20 years ago, it was one of my first what-ifs. :D

Thanks John, yes they are kit missiles.

Van, I think it looks great! I hope you don't mind but I couldn't resist having a little fun in photoshop :)

Glorious.
Hope you're feeling better.
Shame you couldn't get to Hudders due to flu.

I think it's a pretty good job, Van,

I've got a Taiwanese version of an Iwata airbush, double action and gravity feed. I'm petrified about damaging the needle and so haven't actually used it yet.

Can you briely describe your cleaning procedure for acrylics and enamel for me, please?

Thats a nice one Van,will it be making an apperance at any of the shows this year ?

Got the kit in my stash somewhere - one of the first I bought on my return to modelling, and it's still not built
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

van883

How do I get to display a kit on the stand at a show? (this may be a very silly question!)
Allan. re the airbrush. I tip out what remains of the paint, then with a lint free cloth -or whatever comes to hand-I wipe out what paint I can. Then spray through whatever thinners is appropriate for the paint at high pressure. Then I remove the rear of the handle to access the needle, which I then carefully remove and wipe clean. Whilst the needle is out I take off the collar thing  and clean the tip of the airbrush very carefully with a small brush soaked in appropriate thinners. I am careful not to dislodge the trigger mechanism whilst the needle is out. I then put it back together. Be VERY careful when reinserting the needle. Finally I give it one last blow through with thinners/water/Iso or whatever.
Hope this helps
