About removing the needle: always push the needle towards the front of the airbrush. If you pull a needle (with paint on it) towards the back, the paint will transfer to the innards of the airbrush (which are hard to clean).

My airbrush can be disassembled completely, so I usually remove the nozzle and soak the 3 nozzle parts in thinner.

Hi, I was advised by the Iwata dealer who sold me the airbrush not to completely disassemble the airbrush everytime-I find that if I clean th airbrush as soon as I have finished using it (especially with fast drying acrylics), then it is enough. Do you remove the needle from the front?

My airbrush is a Revell, the advice with mine was to completely disassemble it.

Yes, I remove the needle from the front.

I think Allan was asking about the Iwata copy he has.

Thanks for the advice, Van. Can I ask some more questions?

1. Do you find that removing the needle from the back actually results in paint being scraped off the needle and remaining inside the brush? Or is that a needless worry? Do you think it's a better idea to remove the needle from the front after first removing the front attachments?
2. "Take off the collar thing"  what is that--the front metal bits of the brush? Do you take off the whole lot or only the front bit? Unscrew it by hand? Many people say that you have to be careful doing that as the parts are easily damaged.
3. Why do you have to be careful to not touch the trigger while the needle is out of the brush?
4. What I'm really afraid of is forgetting to depress the trigger when I slide the needle back into the barrel of the brush from the rear. My instructions tell me that the trigger has to be depressed when you do that. I suppose it will get damaged if you're not careful.

AAAHHH, I dunno, maybe I made a mistake when I bought the thing--it's too complex for me, even though I got it for a good price. Maybe it would have been better for me to get the Badger 200G. I had my eye on it for a long time but won the Iwata clone on Ebay first. Couldn't back out.

I don't take my airbrush apart after every color change in a weekend of airbrushing, only if I am done with using it and plan on storing it for a few days do I take it apart and clean everything. My airbrush always works perfectly everytime so I must be doing something right! :D

Allan, to answer:
1. by wiping out the bowl and spraying cleaner/thinners through the airbrush before removing the needle-most if not all the paint is removed.
2. the collar is the called the needle cap according to my instructions-it protects the tip of the needle.
3. The needle passes through the trigger -when you remove the needle, the trigger can drop out if you invert the brush! Easy to put back though...
4. I don't know about this as my instructions don't say this.

With care the cleaning process is really easy-be not afraid. But as with any precision tool-be careful!
I have an Iwata Revolution, by the way.

Never mind the problems, Van - a good looking model, and I like the flying picture.

Thanks Van, that's a great help.

I feel more secure and confident about using the thing now.

QuoteHow do I get to display a kit on the stand at a show? (this may be a very silly question!)
Van
Not daft at all mate, you've made me realise we've never really explained !

If the SIG is displaying at a show you're going to, just bring the model or model's along. No pre-booking or anything like that, the more the merrier. Turn up and we'll find a space for it. Even if your'e only there for a couple of hours or so.

Anything else you feel like asking, drop me or Martin H a PM.

Chris
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
