Have You Ever Had One Of Those Kits...

Seriously...

It's not a WHAT IF, so I haven't posted (or even taken) any photos, but I'm building a little Academy OV-10 at the moment especially for the show at Huddersfield next month.

It is falling together, simply falling together. A little bit of filler here and there but that is all. I haven't had this much fun since I built the RoG 1:72 Hunter.

So the question is simply this. Which kits have you built that gave you so little trouble that half way through - or thereabout - made you want to go-out and buy two or three more simply because they were just so much fun ????

Over to you.

Quote'A'..... why ??
Just curious, got 2 of the Ds awaitin' a rainy day. . .

For me it's gotta be the Italeri F-5E/F and the Hase. F-20, not too much work to get 'em together OOB, which is purr-fect for mods.

RoG's Fw-190As made me go & buy a couple after the initial one.

Trumpeter's Badger made me a fan of their stuff period

And slightly off topic, Dragon's Quartermaster Series and regular 35th scale stuff convinced me of their quality.  I was so disappointed to hear about the P-51, but then I haven't seen it for myself.

Possibly my first kit (done at least 27 years ago) 1/32 Revell Hurricane I. It seemed to fall together, and I somehow pulled off a decent painting effort. Admittedly, Bob Tuck would have perhaps gently pointed out that his aircraft didn't have a Vokes filter or a shark mouth painted on it, but....  ^_^

Still have it, minus one wheel.

And I found that my much more recent Hobbycraft Sea Fury went together deligthfully with one small application of filler), so bought another three (for the grand total of £9.97 thanks to a closing down sale). I might have enough time to build one soon...

R.O.G.'48 Rafael is one that i will happily build again, for such a large and reasonably complex kit it just fell together.  and when i feel like a quick plastic fix i grab one of the Academy '72 kits out of the stash, you just can't beat these little jems ,for around $10 aussie i think they are the best value for money on the market!....and on the subject of Academy, building their MIG21 MF at the moment i am just amazed at the level of detail ,the engineering is first rate, and at around $20 aust again,VALUE FOR MONEY!! ,I do'nt see myself using any filler on this kit, with a little carefull clean up the wing to fuslage joint for example turns into a panel line!!   bloody beautifull!!

The 1/72 scale Roden SE-5a was a great joy. It was so well engineered that aligning the upper wing was no problem at all. It also came with a boatload of options which enables you to build different variants. This kit may have been the last one I built semi-straight, only adding somewhat whiffy U.S.A.A.C. markings and a "yellow wings" paint scheme (the U.S.A.A.C. did fly SE-5s as trainers into the 1920s and Curtiss license-built them during the war but none saw combat).

There are probably others (like the Minicraft 1/144 B-29) but the Roden SE-5a was the first kit that came to mind when I thought of a hassle-free build.

Hasegawa's 1/48 A-4s and F-104s. I could probably build just those from now on and be happy.

My last two models I just finished, the Hasegawa 1/32 scale Bf 109G-14 and Revell 1/32 He 162.
The Amtech Ta 183 and Tamiya 1/48 scale Kubelwagon were perfect kits with NO problems at all...why can't more kits be that good?

I'll also vote for the Hasey F-104 but the Tamiya F4D Skyray in both scales gets my #1 mention.

Pretty much anything Fujimi goes together like a dream for me, but their UK F-4's are some of those kits where you just add glue and a bit of paint to the box, shake, and out falls a rather nice model.  Their US models are close, but the UK ones are just better for that.  Of course, I cleaned out Old Guard when they got a buttload of Phantoms in, built them all, then had no idea how to finish them...  I've still got one on the bench, but I do know how to finish it finally.

Fujimi's F/A-18's are close to Phantoms in ease of building.

Just wish they'd have made a 1/72 F-15, of course, then I'd be seriously in debt...

Since I've never been close to the type of modeler who knows or cares much about accuracy, there are very few kits that I have not enjoyed. But for ease of building give me those old Hawk kits from the fifties, engraved decal placements and all. They have a fit that is just un-bloody-believeable, although the fact that it's hard for 1/4" thick plastic to warp might help.  ^_^  As long as the subject is interesting I'm pretty happy. If you want to know what I mean then grab the next Hawk product you see. That little Skyknight I did for Silly Week almost didn't need glue, ... Hmmm, maybe that's where Revell got the idea for their snap-together kits?

For me it's the RoG 1/72 Hunter-I love that kit and it is such an easy build.  Not without a couple of spots that need work, but just enough to make it fun and rewarding.  Another is the Italeri Hawk.  Not the best kit in the world, and not without its trouble spots, but for me it is a joy to build.

Ones in the stash that give the distinct impression that they will be a joy are the Fujimi UK Phantoms, Hase 1/48 A-4s and F-104s, and the Fujimi 1/72 Spit 14.

So I got that going for me...which is nice....

I had a tough time with that same Academy Model (1/72 Academy OV-10A).  Everything was great, until the canopy was to go into place....That's when things went bad for a while.  Those side portions of the canopy just refused to stay on.  Hope you have better luck than I did.
