Academy's 1/72 ME-163 Komet rates way up there in ease of build and comes with a nice tractor and towing rig too. I had it together in a weekend and it didn't need the slightest bit of filler.

I'll also second what's been said about the Fujimi Phantoms. I built their 30th anniversary ANG F-4E kit several yaers ago and only needed the slightest amount of filler.

As others have pointed out, the Fujimi Spey Phantoms are superb, much better than their J79 powered range.  Shame they're not more easily available.

QuoteI had a tough time with that same Academy Model (1/72 Academy OV-10A).  Everything was great, until the canopy was to go into place....That's when things went bad for a while.  Those side portions of the canopy just refused to stay on.  Hope you have better luck than I did.
WOW that is so strange  :o It was exactly this part of the build that prompted me to post this thread. I'd just popped the top section of the canopy on, and ran the liquid poly into the join..... It was as easy as that !

Gotta go and rub down the little bit of filler that I have added. If anybody IS interested I'll take some pics later.... lemme know off-board.

I've not had many, most of mine having been Airfix they don't tend to 'fall together', that's not to say I haven't enjoyed some.  It's simple, but I love the Airfix Gnat, there's so few pieces that it bangs together in no time, although it still needs a little PSR.

Before that I'd say some of the old Matchbox kits, especially the Lizzie.  I had a Tamiya RS1000 that I put together as a kid, went together without a hitch & I was very proud of the paint job.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

the only kit that ever fell into this catgeory was the italeri 1/72 scale A-6E TRAM intruder. not a jot of filler and only a small internal stryene beam for reenforcing.

I think most of the newer Revell & Accademy 1/72 WWII stuff goes together beautifully. But for me it's the Tamiya 1/72 Corsair

I've also had some resin kits that almost put themselves together and then some resin kits that ----------  :(

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Tamiya's 1/35 Panzer II Ausf F/G it's a great little kit I have built 5 or 6 over the years and it was the first tank model I gave my nephew Aaron to build I reccomend it as a first tank to anyone :D

Hey Shas. Intersting note on that -D kit. Its modular, so it also comes with parts to build the -A model. I've got one waitnig in the wings for USCG colors. The only places mine Gave me trouble and needed filler were the nose join and the wing-to-main-fuselage gap. But that one was mostly my fault for not test fitting it 18 times before I glued it. Little bit of cleanup work and it should just snap into position. Also, I got to vote for the Academy Me-163 and the Airifx Hunter FGA.9. Those 3 are probably the nicest kits I've built so far.

The Planet Models 1/72 Henschel P.87 was for me one of the best aircraft kits I have buit in recent years.

This kit had fit that would make some main stream kit makers blush. Almost no filler was used. My only complaint with the kit was the little vac form bomb aimers window. Even then it could have been my hamfisted construction.

Mine would have to be the Extratech German Wurzberg radar in etched brass and resin. I was really terrified when starting this kit as it was serious money and etched brass but the instructions and kit design made it a dream.
It wwas designed so that each part dovetailed into the next and gradually built up a strong structure.
As long as you took it slowly everything came together well. I've done a few other etched brass kits since but none ever as good.

Oh man I just had a wicked flashback. Building that thing was an ordeal. Not as bad as the Glencoe Martin MB-2 though. Ugh.

Now I need a drink.
