You've got aftermarket level of detail there.  If you were to take a decent kit and add that amount of resin, you'd be pushing well over £100. For the detail hounds, this might actually be a cost saving.

Won't stop the aftermarket adding more though.

Someone, somewhere will claim there some doohicky missing from a fin or somewhere, and produce a resin 'corrected part' at around $25 that will 'ensure accuracy'.

Even if there ISN'T a missing doohicky...........................

That's a mental price guys ....we know how good Tamiya can be but are they that good ?

Phill, it is a 1/48 scale kit! ;)

Given the detail, the size & the overall effect of inflation at the moment, I don't think it's that expensive for what it is.

Still not something I'm going to buy, though.
Guy well for 48th that's not bad but still a little much for our English mates ..at the mo 100 quid is $208 nz so for possibly the first time in years we're cheaper 😉 😀.
I did watch a build video on this Kit and WOW!! mate ..this is one hell of a kit 😍
The decal sheets alone are enough for some folks to have fits over .
Yep Tamiya went over board with this kit for sure....ive got the Kitty Hawk kit and that's almost good enough for me but I still want the Tamiya kit  ;D
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .

Mr. Shunsaku Tamiya, the man who built one of the largest scale modeling companies, has passed away. Vale, Tamiya-sensei.

Captain Canada

Saw that the other day on a motorcycle racing site. His bike models have always been the best ! As aside note, I purchased the same kit in the link below when we were in Glasgow back in 2015.

So long, and thanks for all the kits !

Just heard the same, the date mentioned on Britmodeller was December this year although it might take a littletime for kits to trickle to the UK. First 1/72 kit from Tamiya in while.

Apparently it's a scaled down version of their 1/48 kit, expected price is under £40

Take it you missed that they released their own F-35A, F-35B and F-35C over the last 3 years, after initially reboxing the Italeri A & B. Their kits far surpassing the Italeri ones in terms of quality and build, although the opted to not open the bombay, and the B was only tooled to display in VTOL mode which does allow the bombay dors to be moulded ajar for VTOL air defection

The success of which has probably prompted them to scale down the Tomcat, as Hasegawa, Fujimi and Fine Mold all have their own 72nd kits. So this should be a rather nice and buildable new F-14 kit

I'm looking forward to seeing this new Tomcat. Hopefully a few will be available at Telford...

Jadlam have them on pre-order for £37.95 - https://www.jadlamracingmodels.com/products/tamiya-60795-grumman-f-14d-tomcat-1-72-model-kit

Due out in December, the Hobby Company will have it on dislpay on theit trade stand at SMW, but suspect kits won;t be out till December at the earliest

I guess it may be possible that some are air-freighted in just for SMW. It's not unprecedented after all!

I had. The F-35 isn't on my radar really, if I've seen it I'll have assumed it was the Italeri kit.

It's good that Tamiya are getting back into 1/72, hopefully they'll be more. I'm not hugely into the Tomcat either,  but this has pricked my ears up. Tamiya quality speaks, but also that oldest of draws, the box art. Despite the pastel skie, there's a menace to it. Tooled up, lookin' for bovva.

I like how they took one, built it up
and then simply washed the panel lines etc.
It's like it's a sly response to the 3-D renders put up by other kit manufacturers. A bit of polite snark.
