It's a Mk.X basically.

Thinking of "retro-ing" it as I hate piggin' transpances and the frigging frames.

So I thought open gun positions, windscreen from clear plastic and if I can, a fixed u/c.

Colours and nationality?
Luftwaffe of BEF to fit in the '30s Cold War theme, or something else?

Open to suggestions, and the USAAC has crossed my mind, or through the holes in it anyway. :dum:

Cut out and prepared the wellie last week at an IPMS Stafford meeting.
It's a nice kit.
It'll have a fixed u/c with strutting to support, open cockpit with windscreen.
I haven't decided yet on whether the nose will be glazed or not or even armed, but the gun positions mid-fuselage will be "open".
There'll also be no cowlings shrouding the engines(replaced), reshaped tail and tailplanes and a lovely silver finish.
Probably Royal Bulgarian.

What about Romanian, overall light grey, with pre-war roundels. Just my 2 cents worth.

I do like the early, and late, Romanian roundels....nice and bright.
But I ain't got none, but I've STACKS of Royal Bulgarian ones for lots of projects.

Wellingtons--"Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo"

I always thought that it would be interesting to consider other types of aircraft (besides the sixteen B-25 Mitchells) that could have been used in James Doolittle's 1942 bombing mission over Japan.

I realise that all sixteen aircraft had to take-off (entirely under their own power, without catapault or other assist) from the carrier USS Hornet, but still, it's kinda' fun to speculate about other types of aircraft being used--like the Wellington!!!

I realise that the decks of most American aircraft carriers of the time were wooden, but for a one-shot mission like Doolittle's, perhaps using a RATO pack, (rocket-assisted take-off), if available, could have been used to lift the heavily-loaded Wellingtons off the carrier deck and sent them off on their mission.  And the wooden deck could have been repaired elsewhere and then the USS Hornet sent back into action.  I'd like to see a Wellington in USAAF colours and markings.

It would also be interesting to see them in the colours and markings of the PBJ Mitchell medium bombers of the USMC, or PBJ land-based patrol aircraft of the USN (Atlantic Fleet and Pacific Fleet!)

Well I'm doing a Blenheim in USAAF colours, so why not a Wellington ? Might pick one of the Revell (Matchbox) ones up now ?

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Yes, that Revell(Matchbox) kit's a stunner and there's a couple still on the shelf in my local CRAP toyshop...USAAC might well be on the cards. Olive Drab.Neutral Grey?
I like the Wellingtons over Tokyo idea too. :D

Was thinking Dark Earth/Green with Aluminium doped undersurfaces and full colour markings - Aircraft in service pior to Pearl harbour ?

How about all over doped aluminium and full colour markings?

Retrieved the wellington and started glueing the subassemblies together, which is now done.

It'll have a glazed nose, but solid rear end, open gun bays in the fuselage sides, and fixed u/c. Open cockpit. Lots of filler tomorrow to sort out the mods required but the kit goes togetrher well. I've blanked off behind the cockpit as it's just open in the kit.

hopefully, with a good rub down tomorrow (must do something during the England match!!), the wings/tailplanes/engines can go on tomorrow night as well as the u/c.

That'll leave "strutting" and final bits/details before a mid-week spray

Those engine nacelles fit brilliantly, and in fact, the whole things not bad.
Rubbed down the filler on the rear end, but it needs a bit more.
Looking good, though.
In fact, as I've got to add a bit of filler, I might add some in other places and make a V-tail Welly.

In fact, I will

Ok, this idea is probably 1) way out there and 2) a bit too late, but how about making a bi-plane version of the Wellington??
