Gondor

I have an Antipodian build in mind, so such a Group Build would encourage me to build it.

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

Once upon a time, many moons ago, in the early days of the internet, I found an interesting website that declared that New Zealand was originally discovered by a wandering Viking crew in a long boat.  It fired my imagination as the basis for a Viking colony being established in the islands and fighting off the Maori invaders and the later Europeans.  They would of course purchased Swedish aircraft in the 20th Century.  It would be an ideal backstory to this Group Build...

Swedish colonies in southern Africa or South America?

... Argentina!

Kind of my point.

Rather than limit the Swedes to Australia/Kiwiland, give them the whole Southern Hemisphere to play in.  ;D

They could have a claim on Malvinerna

I've got an Aussie build on the list, in fact I've just been buying bits for it today, so I'd be up for it as a GB.

If it was extended to New Zealand I've got a whole list of possible builds, in fact, IIRC, I started the thread on it several years ago.

So, remember to suggest it when the call goes out next year.

What route did they supposedly take? Or was it aliens?

Vikings at L'Anse Aux Meadows (a magical place) yes, but rounding Cape Horn or the Cape of Good Hope?  In long boats?  Naah.

But it's a good backstory for a whif.

Once they got to Egypt, they heard rumours about another sea across a bit of dry land. Not sure if they used camels to drag their boat across, or built a new one on the other side.

They're remarkably capable vessels, aren't they?

They do have to be a bit on the lucky side too though, as that incident with the weather damage demonstrates.

Very much so re capability, but when it comes to luck, virtually any ship up to the 20th Century needs a bit of that, and even then the Titanic ran out of it

They had to lower some modern fenders over the sides though. Those Thames bargees don't give a damn about anyone, Vikings or not!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I liked the way they partially raised Tower Bridge  ;D

Ditch the canards, move the mainplanes fwd. and make it a tailed delta ala the Mig-21 et al and the A-4 Sykyhawk.
Ditch the canards, extend the leading edge of the mainplanes and give it a Gloster Javelin like T-tail.
;D
